Book I want to write

I've floated the title of the book I keep meaning to write , and most (non Ovarian) friends don't like it. What do you think people? 'Ovarian Cancer is Crap and may well kill you' may not have the fighting spirit and positive approach, but it's how I feel just now. Not for any good reason, just fed up with the minor annoyances of not being able to walk straight, headaches, fatigue etc

Why not use it as a working title, then if inspiration strikes when you've finished the book you could change it if you want! Good luck with the writing process. xx

Hi Rachael. I'd write the book first too.

It is annoying though.. how it all adds up and the only variability becomes whether you feel 90 or 105 years old when getting up ...

Then I look in the mirror and check off what really matters to me. Major pain? No. Can sleep? Yes. Can breath? Yes. Can eat? Yes. Can sh*t? Yes. Showered/hair washed? Yes. And it's all good again. ;)

Hope we get to read that book soon. And here's to your niggles and minor annoyances taking a break for a day or two so you can be creative in peace. An amazing mind like yours will make for a fab book for sure.

Be well. xx. Maus

I thought it was just me that woke up feeling 90 plus and went to bed feeling 100 plus 😂.

I love your outlook- very similar to mine 😊

If my eyes open in the morning I count it as a plus 👍, if I can get out of bed a bonus 👍 lol 😆 xx

I love the working title - it has made me smile! Also, it's reassuring to know it isn't only me who can't walk straight. For the majority of the time it is as if I have had one too many wines without the pleasure of actually consuming them! Good luck with the book xxx

If that's what's in your heart then leave it as your title. I personally think it's attention grabbing (always useful in the literary world eh?) and it made me smile but there again I do have a black sense of humour. The title isn't set in stone until the moment it's published so keep going with it as it is. If your non-OC friends hate the title, it's probably a good thing. It has an impact and makes them aware of reality.

Good luck with your writing.

Hi. Good for you for writing a book. The title may well change over time so just see how things unfold. But I thought when I read this. "Cancer is Crap!" Short and pithy titles usually work better.

And you can write about how being told to be positive doesn't really help us when we are feeling ill and down etc and, oh my goodness, its sacrilege to say being positive also doesn't cure incurable cancers like mine. ! Don't get me started. LOL.

Big hugs from English gal in Australia.

I think people who have ovarian cancer or are close to someone who has it will give you the thumbs up for the title. It is no nonsense and you will be under no illusion what the book is about - who wants airy fairy titles, not me! Go for it, I wish you the best of luck 👍😊.

I am 20 year survivor of breast cancer and a 6 year survivor of ovarian cancer 3 c (I am BRCA 1 and just finished yet another round of chemo) I think ovarian cancer is effing crap 🤣xx

Hiya Rachael47, I don’t mind the title but you can bet your bottom dollar there will be those who think it is scare mongering. We know what it’s like cos’ it affects us everyday but heaven forbid you tell people the truth🤣🤣

If you are serious about it do it, gives you a focus too.

If it’s just you are fed up and having a totally p——-d off time, that is ok as well, we all get them. Having one myself today as need to go to theatre to have a sebaceous cyst which has become infected removed, which I suppose isn’t bad but still feeling affects of chemo and so so constipated!

Never mind, onwards and upwards they do say.

Sending you lots of love 💕 hugs and positive thoughts xxxx

I've always responded better to people who are able to just say things how they are rather than try and put a spin on it. Personally I like the title if that reflects the book content. I suspect a publisher will encourage you down a different road for the title but then again maybe not. It would certainly stand out on a book shelf. I do cancer book reviews and it's starting to get tiresome seeing another title of "How I turned my life around", "I kicked cancer's butt", "I started running marathons after my cancer diagnosis". I have started to hope that someone writes something honest that reflects some of the realities. If anyone is reading these books who hasn't experienced cancer I wonder what they come away thinking having a cancer diagnosis really means.

If you haven't got the energy for a book go with a short story or a leaflet type thing or whatever flicks your switch. I reviewed one book which took me a few minutes to read because it was a series of cartoonish drawings to try to reflect the reality of cancer (that makes it sound more flippant than it was, it was actually ok).

Oh and we could definitely do with more books reflecting OC. I've heard comments from a charity and a doctor that the market is overloaded with books on BC and crying out for more on OC.

Just write something if you feel like it and see what happens. You don't have to get it right first time, that's what editing is for. It might be cathartic.

Oh, Rachael. Cancer IS crap and writing about it's horribleness has to be a great counterweight to the face we put on everyday to the outside world. I think your working title is the answer I will give people from now on when asked how I am coping. Their reaction would be priceless! Tell it like it it, sister! 🙌🙌🙌🙌 😁

Totally agree on the crap front. I also like to tell it like it is.

Is this a vanity project and publication? If so them keep the title.

If it is for ordinary publication then people tend to buy books with more inspiration titles.

Good luck

I am afraid I think it sounds negative and people are more drawn to positive titles, someone bought me ‘F**k you Cancer’ and I thought it sounded rather scary.

Hi lovely,

As others have said I’d write the book first however if you’re thinking of titles already then why not along the lines of ‘Ovarian Cancer is Crap, But I’m A Survivor’ whether you beat this or not you’re surviving every day! Every day you wake up you have survived another day same as everyone with cancer! I hope you find the title that suits the book for you xxx
