Pain Relief

Hello friends. I had advanced serous ovarian cancer last year, ascities twice, chemo, surgery, more chemo and now in remission I am on Avastin. This is causing me massive pain. I'm taking oramorph and co codamol 30/500 mg prn. The other day I was started on Buprenorphine 10mcg/hr patch and the pain has eased a fair bit. Thank God for the patch. I still have pain but I can't get over how well the patch is helping. I'm delighted. Does anyone else feel the benefit of these patches? 😊

Yes, me!! I am having a lot of discomfort caused by a partial bowel obstruction, and I have the 5mcg/hr patch and it has knocked back a lot of the pain. It’s meant I’m able to better function as a human being, and more importantly, as a mum to my two girls because I’d been practically bed-ridden for two weeks.

All hail the pain relief patch!!

That’s great - I’m taking a note as I’ve chronic pain from abdominal adhesions that surgeon refusing to take down as may make things worse - I’m currently using oramorph as needed but it doesn’t do much when pain at its peak tbh so I have wondered about patch as friend who had peritonitis used one after surgery left him in pain - are they daily patch or longer as most of time I’m ok then something flares up either wrong food or too much exercise ! Mine lasts for 7 days and releases slowly over the period. It’s really been a blessing for knocking out my background pain.

Thank you - I’ll have to message my CNS as my bowel team had to have arm twisted to prescribe a bit of oramorph x

I would. I resisted oramorph because of my bowel problems, and I don’t find it very effective for me. The patch, on the other hand provides a constant level of relief (and my dose is only tiny, but ample).

That does sound like what I need - the bowel consultant was reluctant to give me opioids because of the risk of making the transit even worse and offered tramadol instead but I’d had such a bad reaction to it after surgery I declined - something for the background pain would really help as it’s always uncomfortable as everything not moving as it should x

Mine lasts one week. It gives 10mcg of relief every hour and is a God send. Give it a try! Jayne x

May I ask if these are the same as “ fentanyl patches” ? - after all the coverage in the papers this wkend regards the addictive qualities etc of prescribed pain oppoides etc ( obviously not regards to us with cancer! But they are extremely addictive hence the articles) I’m nervous to swop from 12 hour slow release octycodobe tablets and pregabalin to Fentanyl patch? I think the patch is a 72 hour one that is being suggested. Is this a much more potent pain killer? I’m trying to keep to a minimum but of course it’s hard to juggle especially when ‘ break though pain’ gets to you.... thanks ladies xxx

Hello TudorPurr68, I am so glad to hear you found something that has given you some relief from the pain. My doctor just prescribed Buprenorphine 4 MG Sublingual. I’m nervous about starting it tomorrow. A friend of mine said, she’s concerned because whenever I take Codeine after a few days I become extremely nauseated, even if I eat every time I take it. I realize everyone is different, but I was wondering if the Buprenorphine made you a little nauseous at first and it went away or not at all. Any suggestions I would greatly appreciate. I know I need to just take it, but I guess I would like some reassurance from others that this med has been helpful and if they experienced any issues with it in the beginning. Sorry so long🤭😊
