Overthinking or not?

Following diagnosis (Stage 3) I had carbo / taxol and surgery. All went well after treatment finished But after 3 mths there were a few nodules showing on my peritoneum so had Caelyx but that didn’t do anything so now on Gemcitabine. CA125 has dropped but talking to a friend whose partner recently passed away with lymphoma she said he was immune to chemo.

I’m now fixated that I might be immune to chemo and nothing they give me will work. I know I’m not being rational but since my conversation I can’t stop thinking about it.

Has anyone else heard of being immune to chemo

Hi Scotty,

I recurred 3 months after 1st line treatment which technically meant I was 'platinum resistant' but the Christie still offered me a platinum based chemotherapy ( I believe some hospitals do not). I understand your anxiety but try to hold onto the positive response you are having with your CA125 dropping. That is good news!

Take care,

Also there are other treatments for platinum resistant people so don’t despair! That’s a whole field of research. What’s your BRCA status? If positive you can try olaparib but you need to start looking into this. Xoxo

Good point Delila. You can also get access to a PARP inhibitor known as niraparib through the cancer drugs fund if you are BRCA negative and have a response to 2nd line chemo. Definitely worth talking to your team about this and check out the NICE guidance for PARP inhibitors.

Hi Scotty,

Remember lymphoma is a completely different cancer to ours.

A different way of phrasing it would be to say that OC responds better to some drugs than to others in different people at different stages. There is now quite an array of drugs that our Oncologists can chose from...and more are coming along...your CA125 Is dropping 🙂

Hello....oh I know that feeling when you are a bit vulnerable and someone relates a story and you automatically assume that everything bad will happen to you...

Being fearful is part of this gig... but an OC medical researcher told me that of all types of cancer OC is the one which doesn’t follow the rules..so you can’t assume!

Maybe have a word with your CNS or Anna at Overcome they will have a better, more accurate grasp of your options and as others have pointed out there are a good few you haven’t tried yet xx

Thank you ladies my rational brain is kicking in. Had chemo Thursday so I’m in that post chemo phase where I overthink every twinge or side effect It also Didn’t help watching ‘Truly Madly Deeply’ this afternoon & crying about what will my husband do if I did die, ridiculous I know but chemo brain on overdrive. I’m getting my act together but will talk to my CNS

Thanks again it is great to be able to post my irrational thoughts and not be made to feel stupid You’re all brilliant
