Hello Ladies,

I have an appointment at the Care Oncology Clinic in London next week. I just wanted to ask any other ladies who are on the protocol how they were getting on? Also do they take the medications alongside Avastin?

thank you, Sticky

Hello there,

I’m not on the COC protocol but there are a few ladies here who are so am sure some will give you feedback. I did a bit of research on it but decided against it...I just felt there wasn’t enough research around it and my onc hadnt heard of them and looked puzzled when I mentioned it?!

It’s a personal thing but I felt that I’m in remission and in a relatively good position so hopefully I will be ok but who knows at the end of the day whether I will recur or not? I guess as stage 3 there is a chance that I will but I’m living my life and feeling good at the moment. I am however taking daily anti inflammatories (ibuprofen) and have the support of my onc and GP on that. There has been some positive research on the effectiveness of anti inflammatories on ladies with ovarian cancer so I’m giving that a shot. I believe aspirin is one of the COC drugs but there are additional ones that you have to take as well.

I heard the COC doctors are very professional so it’s worth meeting them, I think there’s also a Facebook group related to off the shelf medicines in these cases ( not sure of the group name sorry) and also some recent books published on the effectiveness of this protocol.

Hope it all works out for you and that you have a great positive outcome, best wishes,

Liz Xx 💖

Thank you! It’s a difficult one as I don’t want to risk potential medical problems and side effects if I follow their protocol but also don’t want to miss an opportunity. I’ll do more research and go and see what they say I think. I also started taking regular ibuprofen after reading about the benefits but then thought I should stop whilst on Avastin. It’s a minefield isn’t it?!

Hi Lizz49! Can I ask what does of ibuprofen you are on? My partner is almost finished chemo for Stage3C OC and I wanted to make sure she had some options to potentially prevent recurrence.

Thanks!

Hi Stephanie, thanks for your message! Actually I stopped taking the ibuprofen about 6 months ago as it started to irritate my stomach (even with taking omeprazole). GP thinks I might have a few gallstones so I decided to stop. I’m still in remission and nearly 3 years cancer free, so not sure if the ibuprofen made any difference for me or Ive just been lucky so far. Mine was clear cell OC so behaves differently the onc told me. There is a lady on here called Dr du and she has been taking the ibuprofen for many years with no recurrence, maybe search for her posts? I didnt take any particular brand just 200mg 3 times daily. Best of luck to your partner and hope her remission lasts forever! Xx

Hi Liz,

Thanks for replying so quickly! Yes I have heard about drdu and have read her posts as well. We may speak to our oncologist and ask about her opinion for using ibprofen perhaps after my partner's chemo. Seems they are suggesting she may benefit from 8 rounds of chemo now rather than 6 so we still have 2 more to go.

Hope your remission lasts forever as well!

Hi Sticky

Yes I’ve been on the COC protocol since my 4th frontline chemo. No problems except had to drop Doxycycline as it just didn’t agree with me. I’m now nearly 19 months in remission from hgs 3c.
