Hi all i am currently in hospital after an op on friday.
I had surgery for second recurrence under prof F in January and just finished chemo 2 weeks ago. I got sudden severe abdominal pain and was admitted ? Bowel blockage. Put on rest and clear fluids but after it didnt settle in 3 days they did CT scan which they thought was new growth on bowel wall (really while still on chemo!)
Long story short went to surgery sunday and the bowel was blocked by adhesions but luckily they didnt need to cut into the bowel just around it so i am recovering well ( until they try and take my catheter out 🙈) most importantly no sign of any new cancer!
This is the second time this year this has happened to me and causes so much worry x does anyone else worry about the reoprting of scans??
Love to all those not so well at the moment 💕💖

I am not under london now back up north, my care is amazing but my question was i sometimes think they see anything new on a scan and report it as recurrence? Prof F ruled out recurrence the last time this happened 2 months ago as she kindly checked the scans for me, but this week it happened again
Hi , I guess all Docs have their own way of saying things my own journey is that I am currently being treated for first recurrence .They we’re watching my spleen because a very small cyst was left on it following surgery a year ago at Jan scan I was told it was no more than scar tissue however May scan and blood test told a different story , my prof at Mount Vernon saw bloods first and seemed to know , looking at scan results confirmed it for him so he definitely was looking at the two together .Spleen now looks “dodgy” and some nodes have enlarged , for me the enlarged lymph nodes tell me it’s correct but I do see that looking at a scan might give a false result .Prof F told me that they never know what they will see for sure until they go in ie a scan doesn’t tell the full story xx
Hi Diane, so pleased for you that it isn’t a recurrence!
Look after yourself after this operation 🌸🌺
Maybe just be very vigilant with your bowels....not always easy though I know, sometimes it can come on quite suddenly. Do you think a daily (mild) laxative would help? Ask the Cons.for his opinion/advice. Linda xx
So sorry Betty that you've had this problem. I'm so pleased that the surgeon didn't need to actually cut into the bowel. Let's hope you keep well now the adhesions have been sorted out. I feel for you with feeling scared when waiting for scan results. Hope you recover soon, love Solange 😊
Hi Diane. Glad the bowel is ok/had no cancer and didn't need a resection, that's always a big worry. Same happened in my first debulking surgery.. they were thankfully able to just scrape the tumours off, and the cells proved to be only borderline, not malignant/invasive... phew.
You are on to something here. I did find that it pays to always ask twice about the scan results and get some details.
I imagine it's not easy to interpret the imaging results and determine that which is minor, and that which requires immediate action, even between radiologists.
