Hi there. Sorry to be a numptie but if you have an EHIC card why would you need travel insurance to go to another EU country? We are going to UK next month and my EHIC is sufficient I assume. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

An EHIC doesn’t cover repatriation to your home country (you may think that’s unlikely but you might be involved in an accident and break your leg and need three aircraft seats). Ever the optimist, that’s me. Also neither of you will be covered for additional expenses incurred because the other was ill. Not to mention lost baggage, lost passports, etc

Try Eurostar, it’s inexpensive for those of us with pre-existing conditions.

Oooo. Didn't know all of that. I'd better be careful or look into getting additional cover. Thank you x

My dad had two strokes, both in France. That's why I always chip in on this subject. Air ambulance to UK one time and medical staff in attendance the other. Beyond the scope of the EHIC.

Sorry to hear about your dad, Mac, and as an immigrant in France who happens to think we have a great system, I hope he received good medical care. Hubby says that if I need to be repatriated he'll shove me in the boot of our little runaround car we keep in UK and drive back. How thoughtful of him...... xx

Well, it's a while ago now. I'd summarise it as being in some ways good, in others not so good. Some of the same irritants as here. But that mix is true of most things I find!

Aren't husbands helpful? xxx
