Try Le Shuttle. You don't have to be travelling with them. They only cover Europe though.

Thankyou, I think we've met. Were you at The Target Ovarian get together in Brighton last Nov? We both stayed in the YHCA?

Yes, we did I remember. I thought the event in Brighton was a good one.

The Le Shuttle insurance was only £24 for 11 days. They do not need to know what's wrong with you, you just must be able to answer these questions. My husband had a stroke in the past and they didn't need to know that either. Note that incurable does not mean terminal (I checked this with them but by all means check again).

1. You will be covered for claims arising directly or indirectly from any existing medical conditions, so long as your doctor can confirm that at the time of purchasing the insurance or booking the journey (whichever is later):

 You were fit to travel

 Your medical condition(s) were stable and there was no sign they would get worse

 You had not been diagnosed as suffering from a terminal illness

 You did not know that you would need medical treatment or consultation at any medical facility during your journey

If you need to make a claim arising directly or indirectly from any existing medical conditions, your doctor will be asked to confirm all of the above in writing.

2. You will not be covered if you travel against the advice of a doctor or where you would have been advised not to if you had asked for their advice before beginning your journey.

I've used them twice now but I've not had to make any claims. If you travel frequently, you may be better buying their annual policy but that is only available if you're under 70 and from what I remember, I think I can safely say you are.

Hi. I asked about what the EHIC covers - enough treatment to stabilise the condition/situation, then you start paying. Just got Insurance with World First for my husband & I for France: £96.77. Reasonable?? I think what throws them with me is: Stage 4 diagnosis with ‘multiple’ tumours found. Hopefully there are none now 🙂 but that doesn’t seem to count! They wouldn’t do a Multitrip one. Just pleased to be making holiday plans though 😊. Lx

I have Boots travel insurance annual world wide ‘ give them a try

I’ve used Insurance With for the past two years, I’ve claimed twice and still get good rates. X

I've found MIA generally good when in or around recent or planned treatment (France rather than Spain though). But your doctor does need to be prepared to confirm you are fit to travel and endure the trip. Otherwise join the WI.

I certainly wouldn't rely on EHIC alone. You wouldn't be covered if you needed repatriation and depending on what intervention was needed you could have hefty additional costs.

I've read there have been problems in Spain around medical stuff, possibly some of it self-inflicted by some silly Brits who think it's clever to make up medical stuff to claim on their insurance. ( a different world, eh?)

Have a great trip. x

I did the rounds last year and got annual worldwide coverage for £120

Be sure to check out the underwriter. Several insurers use the same underwriters but charge widely varying premiums.

Le Shuttle sounds good. Also Insurance With is excellent for medical insurance.

I have an account with Nationwide who give me free travel insurance and £20 for world wide. I put my husband on my account when I thought I was on my way out so he could get the money easier so he is covered as well. I actually phoned them whilst on chemo as I wanted to visit a friend in Oman and I had no problem. I wasn't covered for anything related to my illness.

Last November I had a blocked bowel due to the scar tissue of the op and was worried as I was going on a cruise a week later and thought if I had to cancel I wouldn't be covered. Luckily, I came out of hospital and went on the cruise but because of this I rang the insurance company and paid £80 to be covered for everything including the cancer. This insurance covers both of us for a year.

Hope this helps. It might be worth changing you bank account.

in reply to ZenaJ

That's really interesting.

I too have one of those accounts but when I rang them to declare my pre-existings, they didn't mention an additional charge in order to cover the cancer but just said the policy wouldn't cover anything related to the illness.

As a result of this I've been getting separate cover.

We changed to that account for the car breakdown cover, primarily.

£80 is a lot cheaper than doing it separately for several trips and if I can do it too it would really make the monthly charge worthwhile.

Hmmmm..... I think a " I was interested to learn from one of my friends that it is possible to......" phone call is in order!

Unless I learn that this is a change in policy, perhaps also a complaint about lack of consistency in advice to customers!

They didn't mention to me originally that I could pay to cover my 'condition' either but everything was done over the phone to get the extra cover. We even claimed on this policy when our money was stolen on the plane coming home.

You're right, it does cover car breakdown, plus other insurance cover all on the one account. An insurance is only as good as how they pay out if something goes wrong. You can never be sure you're covered for absolutely everything but it's definitely the usual luggage, money, tablets and phones etc.

Definitely give them a call, it's free so won't cost you anything.

Good luck, Zena xx
