I wonder if any of you can suggest some insurance companies either you or friends (with OC) have used to insure me when I attend a conference in March 2019 in Las Vegas? I live in the UK.
I had a CT scan in July this year which reported that I was NED and the words used in the report was an excellent result.I finished my chemo in April 2018 and have had 9 of my 18 treatments for Avastin .I will finish this all being well in February 2019.
I hope I can find a company at a reasonable price.

Hi I cant recommend one sorry but I have private health insurance and they covered me if I needed hospital cover while in Spain but I didn't end up needing it I just bought regular insurance for bags late flights etc I knew it wouldnt cover me if I couldnt go due to cancer I was quoted over 1000 for a week it was crazy expensive. Its great you are NED long may it last.
Thank you coksd. It does seem strange the way things work sometimes.I met someone in hospital with terminal cancer who was covered to go to USA for £140.I was quoted a huge amount of money for a trip to Germany!
I’d also recommend Insurance With. It cost me £140 for two weeks in Orlando whilst I was still on Avastin. I had to make a medical claim whilst I was over there, and although it is still in progress, I think it is going to be resolved satisfactorily- I was expecting a nightmare with the American health care system!
If you plan on travelling long haul reasonably frequently, another possibility is the annual Worldwide policy offered through membership of the WI (assuming you're over 50) at £195 single. Main details as below. No preexistng exclusions. Note the max age limit does not apply if you already have a policy and auto renew. Major drawback as I see it is that the "year" runs from November to November so if you want to book now and be covered for cancellation, you'd need to pay another annual premium from November. I am interested in seeing if I can use this for a trip or two.
And you may also get something from membership of the WI 😀
You must be ‘Fit to Travel’ defined as:
– If you had contacted your medical practitioner prior to booking your planned trip, and before the trip departure, he/she would not have advised against travel and/or between booking and departure any and all pre-existing medical conditions must be stable and well-controlled both as to the individual condition and treatment(s) thereof and/or there exists no known likelihood of any medical tests, investigations or major variation of treatment or medication between booking travel and the date of departure or whilst travelling
– Travel is not for the purpose of obtaining medical treatment
I simply rejoined. It was not an issue indeed they were very kind.
So long as you maintain your membership and your direct debit annual insurance payment the policy will automatically renew.
I have been with them a couple of years now and really appreciate the peace of mind that if we book a holiday I do not have to worry about getting cover. My husband and daughter are also on my policy.
That is what I do. I rejoined my old branch even though like you I have moved away. It does not seem to be a problem for them at all. They even sent me a birthday card which I thought was very sweet.

Whichever company you end up using, it's advisable to use the same insurer for whoever is travelling with you, even if they can get it cheaper. I think it works under the principle that "they" knew there was a greater risk of cancellation, curtailment, etc because of your condition whereas their insurer didn't know this and didn't take this fact into their premium calculations. I'm not sure I've made complete sense there but I hope you get the gist.
My partner phoned them in July and they still haven't come back with a quote. I'm not sure if that is because I am terminal but they did promise a quote. Has anyone got any other suggestions? We're hoping to fly to Athens in the autumn.
Have you been told you are terminal? Terminal is not the same as incurable. If you're off to Athens, I'd suggest you try Eurotunnel (you don't have to be travelling with them but they only cover Europe). I've used them twice, very reasonable (normal) premiums.
You're right, terminal is not the same as incurable. One doctor at one hospital told me terminal then the doctors at the other branch of the hospital decided to try Avastin. Left hand, right hand thing? I'll settle for incurable right now although what happens when the Avastin stops next March is anyone's guess.
