Haven't been on here for a while although I read the blogs most days. I am in remission from stage 4 oc and each time I book a holiday with MIA insurance I need a note on my medical records to the effect that I am fit to travel at the time of booking. I have been doing this several times a year for 4 years now and it normally involves one of the practices gp's phoning me and i then have to explain what is required (tried making appointment but always advised it will be a telephone conversation) and as far as I am aware they check my notes and add this on. Well I have just had a quite heated discussion with one of the doctors at my practice about putting a note on my records for my forthcoming week away in September and the first thing she said was "I've never heard of that" and then went on to say that how can she put this note on when nobody knows whether I would be fit or not and to know for sure would entail a medical which would cost because it would be private. I tried to explain that everything was on my medical records and that I hadn't had any problems getting this done in the past. Needless to say I am feeling very stressed and still not sure if I'm going to be insured! has anyone else had this problem?
No but what a stupid doctor stressing you out like that, can you be put in touch with the doctor who ok,d it before we have enough stress without all this as well, you know from previous experiences if your ok to travel that should be enough. Hope you have a lovely holiday take care love jenny xx

Tee hee! Know what you mean. Thanks for your reply. I'm feeling much calmer this morning . Husband is going to email the surgery and send a copy of the MIA booklet and hopefully someone will read it and stop this sort of thing happening to anyone in the future. Hope you are feeling ok today. Take care.
Hi, Not had your situation but have booked holiday in Oct. I'm stage 3c OC but with added complication of previous bloods clots (way before cancer) and breast cancer. I have just got the best quote ever from insurepink. An insurance company for women with breast cancer but took all my history as well no problem, and no medical check up with Gp or note on records.
Husband just phoned our surgery from work and spoke with the practice manager who explained the reasons they could not do this for me as it was not part of the NHS service. It appears to come under the realms of a private service so I guess if I was willing to pay then it would be ok. Anyhow have just contacted oncologist department and they advise they are quite happy to send me a letter stating I am fit to travel. Funny thing is I've been doing this via my surgery 2 to 3 times a year for 4 years now so it appears that I haven't really been covered for previous holidays. Luckily haven't had to claim for anything!
What a pain for you to go through this just so you can relax and have a good time. As though that wouldn't help with any illness, never mind the mental strain that we all go through with it. I'm glad your oncologist will help. Mine had the same attitude - she wants her patients to have the best life they can under the circumstances. Hope you have a lovely time.
Yes I know who to go to next time. Still can't believe it's taken me 4 years of thinking I was covered by phoning my gp. Have to say my one is ok. The one I had the problem with is not who I normally speak to. Won't be speaking to her again!
