Weekly taxol dosage

I've started on the standard single agent weekly taxol chemo. I wanted to know how the dosage differed from my previous carboplatin and taxol regime when I met with the Prof at my last appointment. He explained that it was at the highest 80% (ratio to body weight/height) and he expected this to be OK for me for the next 24 weeks (three weeks on, one week off).

I am concerned that this is the same level I was treated with when I was receiving it in 2014, when it was only once every three weeks. And I found that tough going.

Can anyone confirm what their weekly taxol dosage is/was? I don't need to know the actual figures (although apparently I'm at 140) but would be interested in any info. I also wonder whether this week's dosage was worked out based on my weight prior to my tummy drain, when I was carrying nearly a stone overweight!

I know they try to make us "take" us much of the wonderful poison as our poor bodies will suffer....

many thanks for any thoughts

Hi Caroline, I had weekly pacataxol as I was on a trial. I believe they are finding it's better and less intrusive on people. I was fine and coped well. Hope it all goes good for you too. Xxx

I don't know my dosage but I had weekly taxol in between the carbo taxol (every third week) and did not have any side effects--was able to work, go to the gym, etc. The carbo week was quite different but I just assumed it was the carbo. I can't do IP due to Stage IV but the doctor told me weekly taxol is showing similar results (maybe they said that to make me feel better but it did!) Anyway, if you can stick with it and if you cannot tolerate it, your team should know what to do to make it better or adjust dosage. Fingers crossed!

I did weekly taxol in 2014 as part of the ICON8 trial, I believe I had the same amount as those who had it once every three weeks but it seems it's much kinder to the patient if it's administered every week. I had very few side effects, just a little tired by day 3 but that was it. Hope it's the same for you and that it gets the little blighters ❤️Xx Jane

I am on weekly taxol, I was really worried as my body didn't deal well with the paclitaxol when on 3 weekly and combined with carboplatin. My 3 weekly dose was 270mg in 500ml over 3 hours. My weekly dose is 133mg over 1 hour. I am around 56kg and 5'4" sorry mixed metric and imperial!

This regime has been much much easier to deal with, am currently on cycle 6 and have just been asked to do 8 cycles. Apparently if one is coping well this is std? Whilst not happy I do think I can deal with it. Certainly I only managed 5 sessions of the higher dose.

Hope this helps

Good luck with this round of treatment.

Tx

Thanks for your replies everyone. They have given me confidence that this regime is not only possible, but also might be effective.

Teresa - your details were great. My numbers are almost identical so this really helped me accept it all.
