Caelyx / carbo / steroid and aprepitant (emend)

Hi

Has anyone on caelyx / carbo who experienced nausea had there steroids increased to 5 days? Did you get any more symptoms from this? Worried about weight gain (vain I know).

Also, have aprepitant added for nausea but worried one of the side effects of this is hair loss ! I've not lost a single hair on Caelyx / carbo so would be very annoyed if my anti sickness then causes hair loss!

Anyone any previous experiences they can share?

Hi, Sorry to hear you are suffering from horrible side effects particularly nausea which is so debilitating . I had my 4th dose of Carb0platin and caelyx on Wed suffered from nausea for a couple of days on first round. I was on metropromide 10mgs which was increased to 3 times a day for 5 days and I have continued it once a day and it has completely controlledvthe nausea. No problem with hair loss hope this helps. I've had aprepitant (emend) and I have hair. It was constipation, but it only a couple of days and dates and figs sorted that out, but there are lots of medicines too. I also had 5 days of steroids and got very shaky when I came off. My daughter started coming up on the worst day (70 miles away) as holding hands was the most helpful and seeing her is always a treat so I ended up looking forward to the worst day. I always try to set up treats and friends to see afterwards. Takes the load off my longsuffering partner.

Good morning and yes when I was on Caelyx only for 2nd line nausea was a real battle! I took Emend and Ondansetron but I had delayed nausea in so far as I'd be pretty okay until around day 4 and then bam! Felt horrendous until around day 6 or 7!

Was only ever actually sick once but it's so debilitating and wretched isn't it?

I'm now on 4th line of carbo/ gem and tend to juggle my meds around to suit ME - I'm a firm fan of listening to my body and have kind of figured out what works for me.

Oh and I didn't lose hair at all with Caelyx and Emend!

Thats exactly how I was - ok to start and then day 4 it hit me like a bus and was there until evening of day 7 and then i felt like a new woman!

How much steroid cover did they give you?

Did you use emend and ondansetron on days 4 to 7 to help ?

Hi - only had the Emend pre chemo and a dose the next day if my memory serves me right!

Had steroids x3 daily for 3 days but now I knock them down to 2 for 2 days as I loathe them and don't sleep. With the regime I'm on now of carbo / gem I don't even start the Ondansetron until day 4 but if I'm feeling a bit queasy before that I'll lob one in 😂😂.

It's so much trial and error isn't it but we've just gotto ram on the big girl pants and stay strong 👊💪💪.

Im currently on 3rd cycle caeylx and had no sickness with it but ad double dose steriods before chemo and antisickness.. chemo nurse said i should'nt have sickness after caeylx and i didnt.. not lost hair either having problem with left ankle bein swollen and got a bit of a rash but got consultant on 13th hopefully get them sorted...

Hi. I am on the same regime. I had emend for two of sessions 2nd and 3rd chemo. but did not bother last time as did not think it made much difference to my sickness and felt I was more constipated with it. I've had my 4th lot of carbo caelyx and over last week have noticed I am loosing eyelashes and a little hair but very little noticed a few strands in bath. I did have a rash after chemo this time and wondered if it was due to that.
