Well where to start. Fifth chem cycle last week. My sister usually has a couple of days feeling yuk then bounces back. Not tbis time. She is in critical care with neutropenic sepsis and a blocked bowel which thankfully has started moving again. Her white blood cells are on their way back up but first 24 hours was touch and go. The doctors told her friend who took her in that she was the "sickest person in the hospital and the ambulance crew was surprised she was conscious with a blood sugar of 1.9. She went home alone after chemo, didn't eat much for 4 days. My daughter went round and she was chatting, watching tennis and very tired. Ate some cornflakes and drank half a cup of tea. That night she crashed and couldn't answer the phone or get off the sofa. A friend came round to check on her and she had to shuffle to the door to let her friend in. Ambulance called immediately and the recovery begins. Safe to say we nearly lost her. I arrived back from a trip to the US and went straight to the hospital. Don't know what will happen next but I susoect cycle 6 will be delayed or cancelled and if they do give it hopefully they will keep her in for monitoring after just in case she crashes again.

Bad times
Oh my goodness, how terrible for your sister and of course for you. Neutropenic Sepsis is so scary, and I'm glad to hear that she's at least got through the worst. It's horrible to think of her being alone at home feeling so terrible.
I will say a special prayer for her tonight, keep strong
Marian xx
The poor love! No one should have to do chemo alone- you can become sick really suddenly. Now this has happened I think they may suggest GCSF injections to keep her immune system from crashing xx
That's awful, she must be one strong lady though, sepsis is really awful, I'm so very glad she's pulled through it, hope she feels better soon, big hugs and love to you both ❤️Xx Jane
That sounds a horrible experience. I hope she continues to improve. When I've been ill from chemo after several doses they've reduced the dose. It seems to be either that or on overnight observation in hospital. Let us know if there's a different answer please, when you have time.
So thankful people were checking on your sister. Hoping she continues to bounce back
Thank you all. She is improving her white cells are back up and her bowel has started working again so she has been moved to an Oncology ward. Her heart rate was erratic but coming back to normal. Safe to say she has had a lucky escape. I think that the blockage will be investigated further now they know about it. I expect she will remain in hospital for few more days.
My sister also lives alone and is battling fourth recurrence of OC-in her pelvic bone now. So hard to imagine living alone and dealing with this. My sisters and do not live close to her so we take turns flying in to be with her. Prayers to you and your family-esp sister.
