Blood transfusion anyone?

Hi All

After having 6 rounds of carbo taxol finishing 4 weeks ago I am absolutely wiped out and can only walk about 100 yds. I am having a blood transfusion on Saturday as blood tests show low readings. Has anyone else had to have one? If so how quickly did you feel the benefits?

Hi Fay, yes i had a transfusion on one occasion. I had found that i was becoming breathless and needing to sit down just walking upstairs.

I had expected to come skipping out of the hospital, but in fact it took a couple of days to feel the benefit. I know some people get beneficial results straight away.

I only needed this once, and you will definitely feel a lot better very soon.

Hi Fay, I felt the benefits the next day,it was very noticeable. I had a couple of units which took about 4 hours, so take a book or something to help pass the time. I hope you will soon have more energy.

I had a few during my first treatment, before surgery and also during chemo and felt better after a couple of hours. I had a lot more energy very quickly, though it took me a while to get over the fatigue of chemo.

Thanks for all the replies. Now looking forward to tomorrow. Considering how I feel right now it is hard to believe a difference will be seen so soon but you guys have given me hope. 😀

I have had three blood transfusions over time and I'm so glad I did!! I felt better the same day! It was amazing. No more shortness of breath and dizziness. You are going to feel so much better afterwards. It is such a worthwhile procedure!! Kim xx

I had a blood transfusion before I started chemo. I was so breathless and couldn't walk very far. I was pushed in a wheelchair onto the ward but was able to walk off the ward feeling much better. I had another one during my debunking surgery and my blood level s have bern fine ever since ( touch wood). You will be fine

Had to be wheeled in when I had the cross matching. 🙁

Wheeled in for transfusion. Cannot believe I usually go skiing for 2 weeks a year. Thanks for all the encouragement.

Hi Valo

I am halfway through the first unit as we speak.

I don't think I will ever feel good enough to clean the house top to bottom 😂 not in my contract!!

Hope to feel better so can resume the social life. Yes I am that shallow. 😀

Hi Fay, I had blood transfusion during chemo and after and I was bouncing about the same day. Sometimes I feel like I'd like another one to get me going. Good Luck.

Hi Fay, well done getting through the chemo course. I had a blood transfusion before my 2nd abdominal surgery (end March this year) and felt as though I could run a marathon there and then. Just about to start my first course of chemo and have asked about blood transfusion if count is low. Good to hear from all the ladies here that they all felt the benefit. Hope you're bouncing back soon and enjoying your social life. Plan a skiing holiday too :)

Lots of love, Gillian :) xx

Yes I had one was the same could not walk down the garden. I felt better within days, but I'd been poorly for about 2 months with low counts so took a while to get fitness back

Hi Rienesue

Unfortunately I have not had any benefit whatsoever 🙁

Very disappointing as everyone else seems to have been rejuvenated after the transfusion. Still worth trying.
