I started niraparib 7 days ago and I’m having weekly blood tests for 6 weeks, and then monthly (I think!).

I'm just wondering how often ca 125 is tested, does anybody know?

Thank you ladies x

I think mine was tested once during those first six weeks. I then went to fortnightly tests, then monthly. I think they test it every other time now. (I forget to ask as I assume they will say if it is rising.)You can always ask the nurse taking the blood whether it is on the list to be tested. I think they take an extra phial (3 instead of 2) if they are including 125.

Do you have an appointment with your consultant after each test? I had a phone call or face to face, so it is another opportunity to ask.

They will be testing your blood pressure each time, I assume? Mine has been raised since being on Niraparib, but luckily not enough to warrant medication.

Mine is tested every time I have a blood test which was monthly but after being on it for 2 years now I only have a blood test every 2 months because my bloods have stayed stable through out.

Great to hear that your bloods are stable 2 years on. Here’s to it staying that way x

Thank you for your reply, it’s really helpful.

I had my first blood test yesterday and have a follow up call today. I wasn’t sure if ca125 was included in yesterday’s bloods. I should have asked the nurse yesterday 🙄.

Hi Emma, I started Niraparib just over a year ago and I have my ca125 level checked every 3 months. My bloods tests were the same at first being once a week, then every 4 weeks. I’ve haven’t been able to go any longer than that due to some side effects and low blood counts.

I hope that helps. Good luck with your treatment.

Great to hear that you’ve carried on taking it in-spite of side effects. Long may it continue x

I had it every week for the first 4, then monthly, then 3 monthly but they did my CA125 each time. He said that, for me, it was a good indicator so maybe that’s why?

Was on it for 3.5 years before recurring, and now on a trial with Olaraparib, and monthly bloods

Good luck x

Thank you 🙏. It’s a good indicator for me too so I’m guessing they did my ca125 and it’s ok, although I will ask. Best of luck with the Olaparib, is that parp only for brca ladies? x

Hi I’m not sure! I’m on a trial now so hoping it can do what it needs to! I am BRCA2+

It’s all very laid back and completely different to the usual 3 month CA125 stress!! It’s taking quite a bit of getting used to!

Wishing you well with the Niraparib xx

Hi Emma, I'm also on Naraparib and had weekly blood tests for a month. I now have them every four weeks and the CA125 is included on my blood form. Good luck. Maggie.

I had bloods every week to begin with and then monthly for a year, when the Niraparib stopped working. The ca 125 was usually included on the blood form. Wishing you well. 🙏
