Still here, still vomiting, still having enemas to try and help. Waiting for a ct scan to see if there is a bowel obstruction. If there is it's likely to be high up. Talk of surgery now - feeling fed up and nervous and in need of words of wisdom from others who may have had this 😬

How horrible for you Becky, sending you my best wishes, hopefully it can be sorted asap and you are on the mend quickly!

One positive is that you only had a scan about 3 weeks ago by the look of your posts which showed no visible signs of disease πŸ‘πŸΌ

Thinking of you xx

Hi Becky. I had a small bowel obstruction in early December 2016 resulting in a 10 day hospital stay. I had iv fluids and was nil by mouth for about a week of that time, had several ct scans to monitor and there was also talk of surgery, so I know how you are feeling. Luckily, the obstruction resolved through resting the bowel so hopefully this may be the case for you too, but if not, the surgeons will do whatever is necessary to get you feeling better. That's probably not what you wanted to hear, but if it's intervention that improves things and gets you home, maybe it's for the best? All good wishes being sent your way and please let us know how you get on. Xx

I'm not surprised you're feeling fed up, you've been there for three days. Are you still in A&E or have you been moved?

Alikay seems to have experience of this, so hopefully your obstruction will right itself too. You must be feeling really rough with the vomiting.

All the best!

So sorry, I cant give you any advice at the moment, I think trust your team and hopefully the obstruction will untangle in the next day or so, sending you a hug

Hi Becky,

Was vomiting all the time before my op,no bowel obstruction, but they were swaying between bowel/Ovarian cancer with me.I had ascites and was drained over 2 weeks (bloated stomach),but vomited after op and couldn't eat but it was acid an Omaprezole was diagnosed, fine since.I did have 2 blood transfusions too.

Good news is,after chemo,I am now 2 years NED,so, if I can do it, so can you. They will find the right mixture to get you on your feet, you are in the right place,

Love and best wishes,

Carole xxx

I haven't had this but wanted to say I hope you are sorted and home soon x

Poor you. I had this about 15 months ago. I did about 5 days (no enemas) nil by mouth with no progress then had the surgery. Pleased to say it was a success and I've been really good since then. It was an adhesion and fibrous non cancerous tissue. It is major and I was in hospital for the best part of 3 weeks. Another woman was in for at least 3 weeks nil by mouth and eventually the earth moved for her... so there is always hope even if they need to give us patients a patience pill. I asked that the surgeon consult with my gynae surgeon on the basis that he was familiar with my insides and he popped in to visit which was nice.

It is the most painful thing ever. I found very hot water bottles on my back were the only thing which helped at all. The other stuff is fine but it wears off.

Be prepared for the bowel stuff transforming your conversations with friends and family. They don't like being messed with and take a long time to settle down (bowels that is, not f and f).

Good luck x

Thank you so much for your replies. I am still here feeling utterly miserable. They put a tube up my nose last night into my stomach to drain the bile that I keep throwing up which is horrific. The ct did show an obstruction so I was passed over to the surgical team yesterday. Waited all day for someone to come and see me and at 3am this morning someone did. He said they couldn't be sure the obstruction wasn't cancer so they were going to treat me conservatively - I was to remain with the tube and finish my last 2 cycles of chemo before they decided whether surgery was an option. To say I'm not happy is an understatement! I really don't think it is cancer - surely my last ct would have picked that up? I can't bear this tube much longer and I just want to cry all of the time. I've asked them to let my original surgeon from the Queen Charlotte hospital in Hammersmith know to see if she has a different opinion. I really hope she does - I need this to be over with now 😞

Those naso-gastric tubes are the worst thing, aren't they. I just hope they got it in in the right position so it starts making a difference. I had one once which wasn't, so I had the worst of all worlds!

I think it's quite hard for them to tell from the CT what sort of problem it is. In my case they were pretty confident it was a cancer problem which it turned out it wasn't. I also found that the preferred course of action very much depended on the surgeon. I started off with one who wanted to treat conservatively and when the rota changed the next one felt I needed to have surgery and pronto. Could you get a second opinion?

Hoping you're a bit more comfortable today. xx

Sorry to hear all this and that you're still in hospital. I'm having bowel problems but not blocked completely. I had a naso-gastric tube for a few days when I was first diagnosed but eventually vomited it up. They are awful. I hope they manage to sort everything out for you soon x

Hi Mac27.

So I'm still in hospital, with no sign of anything happening any time soon. I am due chemo on 7th April. We're you having chemo when you were in hospital and did it still go ahead? Sorry for the questions but I'm rapidly losing the will here!!!!!!

Hi Becky, I had a bowel obstruction whilst going through first line treatment. The pain was awful and I don't think I'll ever forget the taste in my mouth when I started vomiting! My hospital pumped me full of fluids and I was nil by mouth. Each day I'd be asked if I was passing wind. It took about 3 days for that to start and then another day oir two before I started to go. I do hope you weill be OK. I remember hoiw frightened I was. Big hugs. Ann xx
