Hi..I had laproscopic surgery. Of my 2 ovaries and fallopian tubes 1 week ago.I was given oxycodone/apap 5-325mg to take for 5 days , 1 every 4 hours. They helped, but now I don't have anything except Tylenol and I still have pain.It hurts constantly.Today I noticed smears of blood every time I urinated. Not sure if blood is normal, or what to do about the pain.

Ring your doctor first thing this morning and ask either for an urgent appointment or for your doctor to ring you back this morning. Let your surgery know you've just had surgery and are having problems if the receptionist isn't helpful! I had to do that after my full radical surgery and the doctor rang me and said he would visit me at home if I needed it.

You need to speak/see a doctor to be reassured everything is ok and to get medicines if you need additional

Let us know how you get on

Take care

Hi Karen, I agree with Claire. You need stronger pain killers from the hospital or medical centre. I'm not sure of the procedure in the USA. Here we tend to go to our local general practitioner after being discharged from the hospital.

A week is barely any time after this operation. And it is hard and painful after the surgery. Regarding the bleeding, I think it's quite normal after surgery but your doctor definitely needs to be told and make the decision to see you or monitor you.

I hope you begin to feel a little better soon.

Hello Karen. I had one ovary and tube removed via laparoscopic one week ago last Friday. It kicked my tail much more than I ever expected. Having had 2 csections in my earlier years, I figured "can't be that bad". But I think being 20+ years older had a lot to do with it. I walked like an old woman for well over 7 days, and am just now feeling normal. I too was given oxycodone, and 800mg ibuprofen. I bled pretty good for the first day post-surgery, and noticed staining when wiping for 4-5 days later. It has since subsided completely. Hang in there; it gets better every day, I promise. Hugs.

There are specialist pain control departments where you can get advice on how to manage.the one thing I have learnt is that you need to take the pain meds Before the pain becomes too bad, they don't work well otherwise. I alternated paracetamol and ibuprofen up to their maximum doses and had Tramadol in case it got too bad xxx

You must live in the US because I had the same issue. I was told ibuprofen and Tylenol was all I needed for pain. Unfortunately we live in a country where opiate addiction is so bad that when a patient actually needs these meds we're usually looked at like we're an addict just exaggerating our pain level for meds. Good luck and God bless!

I had a similar op in August (after an op in June to remove a large tumour), although they had to open me up more than they had first thought (so not completely laparoscopic). I'm in the UK and was prescribed the standard doses of paracetamol and ibuprofen but for the first two weeks i also had access to Tramadol, which was a godsend (as was given codeine after first op, which didn't do much but make me sick and bung me up!)

It is uncomfortable for the first few weeks but it does get better. I bled (a lot) initially, but then it slowly disappeared. However, if you're in continued pain and the bleeding is worrying you, it's best you contact your medical team to discuss. I developed a massive haematoma after my first operation, which was only diagnosed after a subsequent ultrasound scan 2 weeks later...it was causing a huge amount of pain going to the loo for a start. So speak up if you are uncomfortable.

Good luck with your recovery!

I agree that the soreness is pretty normal for up to six weeks but if you are bleeding a lot, I would see your family doctor or ring the hospital ward that looked after you, Hope it is resolving now, best wishes

Thanks to all you ladies for your advise.I will be calling the Dr's office whom performed the surgery.Yes I am in the US..and there is a lot of opiate miss use here.I am 61 and previously had colon cancer with a resection 2 yes ago..so all the scar tissue inside and some damage from radiation does not help. After major surgery for CA I was given a prescription for pain for 1 week , and had a stoma with raw flesh 2inches in diameter around the stoma.I've had a few major surgery's and yes they do not want to give opiats out even when needed.I hate to even ask.. Thanks. Karen
