I've been doing really well and halfway through my chemo now. But I've started with sore hands very red and hot in between my fingers. Just wondered if anybody else had this. Also developed bleeding piles which is a problem as I'm taking anti sickness tablets and they make me constipated. Ann

I haven't had sore hands but have had numbness in my finger tips. If you ask your onc I would of thought there maybe something you can put on them to soothe them.
Reference the constipation though, which I suffered before my ileostomy, make sure you take a stool softener such as movicol, laxido etc to stop it from getting too bad. Also I was given some cream to put on my piles that had anaesthetic in so helped with the soreness and repair.
Hope you get things sorted out.
Take care

The piles are horrible arent they? My chemist told me use Liquid parafin rather than anusol for piles and that area and it does help. You can get suppositories to help from your gp. I did have piles and got them banded, they will do that while you are on treatment but no biopsies. Try and take the Movicol or ducolax with hot water, it does help move things faster. Also another godsend are Prunes in Juice about 5 in the mornings at breakfast. Dont suffer like I did get the suppositories to heal the piles from you gp meantime. About the hands, I would say it to your team and they will give you cream to help with that.
I got both oh these. Be careful with hot water. When my hands were red I got out of the bath and my skin chucked off leaving open wounds. The chemo unit gave me Pliazon Cream which really helped the sores heal and took the redness down. For the pikes the doc gave be cream and suppositories with steroid in which helped. Good luck I know both of this things are uncomfortable. I had chemo delayed a week when the sores were open.
I have same problem even for the full three week break, I spoke to my onc yesterday and she said it is the taxol that causes it as it is very aggressive and causes some sensativity to the skin.
Hi, Ann, Well done, you. Yes, it could be Palmar Plantar syndrome - that makes your hands (and feet) hot and red. Pyridoxine might help. More info here: cancerresearchuk.org/about-...
Good luck x
Hi Ann
I'm thinking it may be Caelyx you're on? It's a red drug and does turn your hands an orangey colour. It also causes sore hands. I had something similar to paper cuts in the creases of my finger joints on the palm side of my hands. My hands became so sore that it was painful to pick up the electric jug or a full mug of tea. I was having other problems too & so my onc reduced the Caelyx by 10% and it was all manageable after that.
Regarding the piles, I have those too (seldom bleeding these days) and it's very important that you use a strong laxative every day for the first week following chemo infusion, to get you over that time. Don't even bother with prunes or over-the-counter laxatives such as Senakot as nothing is good enough except really strong laxatives. Of course prunes are good to have but just don't expect them to even come close to helping with the problems that chemo puts you thru.
