Sore hands

Hi, As anyone experienced very sore hands, it's the palm of my hands and fingers which are the worst. Very red and painful. I have just come off caylax (not sure I've spelt it right). I am wondering if it's a side effect of that. Been putting e45lotion on but still very sore. 😏xx

HI Juliette, I havent had that drug but I have read on some posts that is causes skin problems, udder cream was mentioned but not sure if you can buy it over the counter. I would use unperfumed soap like simple baby wash or acqueous cream until you see your gp or a member of the oncology team. In the meantime I hope other ladies will give you a better reply than mine

Thanks suzuki, I have been putting e45lotion on my hands but one of the ladies on here said her doctor told her to use simple body lotion so will try that. Also going to mention it to my Gp.

I am having calyx and carbo just had my fifth one and my hands are very.red sore also feel very hot this a side effect of calyx you have to keep the very well moisturised which helps hope it soon improves xx

I am not on the same treatment as you, however I have had sore back of hands, where I have reacted to the chemotherapy. I was told by one nurse not to use E45, so I have been using Simple body lotion on my hands, and Simple hand wash, it hasn't got rid of it but it does sooth it. I also use Oilatum shower gel to wash my hands, which i got on prescription. But I would speak to your practice nurse first she might advise you on some thing different. Hope it soon gets better.

Hi Yes I had very red hands and feet when on Caelyx, my oncologist gave me some cream, sorry can't remember what it was called (no help) but ask your CNS or oncologist as they can give you something especially for the soreness, I was also very sensitive with heat on Caelyx so my showers were nearly cold. Hope you feel a bit more comfortable soon

Hi,

Yes it's a common SE of Caelyx called 'palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia' my Onc prescribed Aveeno cream (fantastic stuff) and a vitamin B6 supplement (Pyridoxine). Keep a close eye on your feet as they can quickly dry and the skin can split (risk of infection). Try to keep your hands and feet cool and don't expose them to extreme temperature changes. 'Don't wash up!!' that was my Onc's instructions (I love her!!) and have cool baths or if possible have a shower instead. Wear sandals or open shoes to keep the feet cool. I also found putting my hands in cool water helped to ease the soreness but make sure you moisturise afterwards.

Now you've finished it should soon clear up.

Oh thankyou, I have been using e45 lotion but funny you should say about aveeno cream as wr have got some of that, my hubby uses it a lot. He as lovely soft skin 😣he drinks pints of cordial a day, as my skin is as dry as a prune. 😏xx

I'm due to start calyx and the oncologist warned me about the sore/red hands and said one of the best things for it is udder cream,although she said she could prescribe other things as well. As I have a horse and use a local farm /horse suppliers for food etc for him I'm going to look on the shelves there and see if I can get it there. Otherwise I might have to ask my vet!! x

Hi I am going to use aveeno cream for my hands and feet, have been told it is very good for dry skin. 😊 xx

I used aveeno cream when I had dry and itchy skin with 1st line and will bare it in mind this time around. x

Diprobase was the cream I was prescribed when I was on Caelyx ...got very sore all over and had to come off it but diprobase worked a charm.
