Could I have an ovarian cyst?

Painful right ovary and heavy bleeding for 3 weeks now. Ultrasound scan couldn't find my ovary so going to gynocologist urgently to find out what is going on. I've been given transexamic acid to slow the bleeding down. I am 51 years old.

Hi Tammy, I hope you get your appointment soon with the gynae onc and that tests will be done to see what is going on at the moment. It must be a worrying time, I hope the tablets work for you in the meantime

Hi Suzuki, thank you for your kind response. I was told I would get seen real soon so that's good. This is day three on the tablets and the bleeding has slowed down a bit so that's good too. I was awake most of the night with lower back pain which is coming and going. I will post again once I have seen the gynocologist. Thanks again.

Hi Tammy, there is a possibility that is a cyst; but there could be other reasons behind it. Transexamic tablets are good - they worked for me when I was having really heavy periods - bleeding for 28 days off for 5 then bleeding for another 20 - using a pack of super-super absorbency towels a day. Though I didn't have a lot of pain. Your Gynaecologist could recommend you to have a laparoscopy to find out what is going on there and then move on from there, or they may suggest that you have a CT scan to have a look if the ultrasound didn't work. I had a laparoscopy back in November to have a look at the cyst the trans vaginal scan picked up. They found more cysts on my right ovary and signs of endometriosis, so they decided to remove the cysts, ovaries and fallopian tubes in January after having a CT scan in November. This was all done via keyhole surgery - you can't see where they went in now and was only off work for 2 weeks recovering. I have never felt better - though will probably feel even better when they put me on HRT (not on there yet due to other issues I have). Having the cysts doesn't automatically mean you have cancer; but it's always best to get these checked out immediately, so I would push for action to be taken and keep chasing them if you don't hear anything. My cysts were diagnosed as borderline, so they caught them just in time. I do hope that you manage to get everything checked out and that everything is okay. I'm 43.

Hi LucyBlue2U, it was good to hear from you. I have been on the tablets for three days now and the bleeding is slowing down. I was awake most of the night with lower back pain which was coming and going for hours. I know I will be seen soon so that is good. I just want to find out what is going on to put my mind at rest. I am sorry to see the amount of trauma you have had and what you must have went through. I am glad your operation was successful and hope you will have success on the HRT when you start it. I will post again once I have seen the gynocologist.

According to ultrasound they found a fibroid but a mri scan showed a malignant mass the size was 20cm by 20cm. I would trust mri scan way more than a ultrasound. ask your gyne doc to give you a mri scan. also blood tests ca125 is a good detector for ovarian issues

Hi asmaz, that must have been quite a shock. I will see how I get on with the first visit to the gynocologist and if I am not happy I will ask for more tests. I hope things go well for you.
