Taking taxol and carbo. Have GOUT..anyone else have gout issues with chemo

Hi,

I got bad arthralgia with the taxol- is like gout in hands, feet and knees mainly- was in a lot of pain after first chemo session and was told by onco that some people are affected like that by the taxol. Also got problems which affected feeling in hands and feet. I was prescribed gabapentin and strong co-codamol to take on day of chemo and for five days afterwards and was told to take before symptoms started on day chemo given. Worked a treat and didn't get that throbbing pain that was unbearable first time and made me want to give up! Hope this helps.

THANKS POLY. BETWEEN SURGERY AND STARTING CHEMO I HAD A SERIOUS GOUT ATTACK AND COULD NOT WALK. SO MANY DRUGS INTERACT AND I HAD A HARD TIME GETTING MY RHEUM DR, CHEMO DR, ONC AND PRIMARY TO TALK. HUGE DOSES OF PREDNISONE GAVE ME HIGH BLOOD SUGARS WHICH HAD BEEN NORMAL. NOW EVERYTHING IS OUT OF WHACK AND I AM OVERWHELMED NOT TO MENTION I JUST DO NOT FEEL WELL AFTER FIRST CHEMO.

I don't know whether I would call the pains I was having (and still having) as gout.. but I got a lot of pain in my hands and feet when I was on chemo... and now 18months in remission I am still getting pains.... but not quite as bad as when I was on chemo...I have now been on Carbo/Taxol twice...best wishes love x G x

I have pain in my feet but I haven't checked out if it is Gout. I did get Type 2 Diabetes after my Taxol/Carbo first line treatment and am now on Metaformin for it. It seems to be keeping things in check , much less inflammation and pain in hands and feet. I am also juicing three times a day. It's all helped too.

Yes, i nave type II for bout ten years. This is gout and flare prior to first treatment then again after. THE prednisone play havoc with sugars. I do take oral meds and was in good control TILL prednisone. I AM SO frutrated. I am jist being told everyone is different. I AM AFRAID OF infection. Just saint thai over.

I don't know if this helps but my oncologist says I shall have carbo-platin and Caelyx because there are less side-effects associated with that combination. You'd think if you have joint problems that oncologists would check and prescribe a chemo that is less likely to inflame it.

I'm really sorry to hear you're having such bad side-effects with chemotherapy.

THANKS ANNIE. I AM REALLY DEPRESSED TODAY. I JUST DO NOT FEEL WELL. NO FEVER OR ANYTHING JUST DO NOT FEEL WELL. I GUESS THAT IS NORMAL. I AM TAKING ATIVAN FOR ANXIETY AND JUST WANT TO KNOW WHEN I WILL FEEL LIME MY OLD SELF AGAIN. I AM USUALLY A HAPPY PERSON BUT THAT EMOTION ESCAPES ME RIGHT NEL. I AM GRATEFUL FOR.THIS SITE. How are you feeling? You seemed really down. Looking at your profile I saw your location is in the Ukraine. Are you getting good support there? It's not acceptable if you can't get a multi-disciplinary team to work together to agree the best course of action for the combination of health problems you're suffering. It sounds as though you must be in a lot of pain with the gout.

Are you feeling any less nauseous now it's been a few days since your chemotherapy?

This site is a really good place to compare notes so we can argue for better treatment. Even with the UK treatment is inequitable. Is there a lot of research going on into new treatments where you are? I don't think I've seen much from Eastern Europe but it's probably because we access research findings from the US and Canada.

I FEEL I.TURNED A CORNER YESTERDAY. I AM FEELING MUCH BETTER TODAY AND I SPOKE WITH THE CHEMO SOCIAL WORKER AND LATER THE COUNSELOR FROM BEHAVIOR MEDICINE. I HAVE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT WITH THE COUNSELOR LATER TODAY. PLUS I THINK PHYSICALLY I FEEL BETTER. I QUIT TAKING THE ANXIETY MEDS 24/7 SO THE DIZZINESS AND OVERALL NO T FEELING WELL AND IMPROVED. I DO NOT FEEL LIKE.RUNNING ANY RACES BUT NEVER WOULD HAVE ANY WAY.
