Finished treatment on March 16th with six Carbo/Caelyx (Doxil here in the U.S.) for first recurrence. About four days ago, a pain in my jaw started-- (at the "hinge" right below the ear-- so opening and closing it hurts) but this morning, I can't bite down without pretty bad pain. Just wondering if anyone else had this happen. It could be something else--but its not about grinding (I wear a bit plate to bed so I don't grind).
Thank you!

Hi, wonder if you have any actual swelling? And is it worse when eating? I experienced similar last year, and discovered I had a blocked salivary gland which sits just beneath the ear. Dentists snd Doctors both recommended drinking loads of water which helped the problem and the swelling soon went down.
Thanks Jackie. Going to ask the dentist who I have an appt with on another matter. I hope that it’s easily rectified! Lots of water is good for so many things!
Wishing you luck with the three treatments left. I found them easy to tolerate after the initial "crash" post treatment (treatment for me on Friday and Sunday and Monday not great) but then fine. I did get sores about a week after treatment but used a type of magic mouthwash which really helped.
Dentist told me if jay pain persists past a week we will delve into why but to see if it goes away on its own--still waiting!
Hi. Re jaw pain. I had 15 weekly chemistry, carboplatin/paclitaxol. About halfway through the cycles I developed a pain and sorness in my jaw where it hinges it was painful to yawn and to bite. The oncologist at the Christy told me it was the platinum in the chemo. I had a 7 week break from chemo and my jaw became less painful. I am back on chem and just had the 3rd one. My jaw is getting a little painful again though as yet not as bad. I also get pain in my ear. I am afraid I haven't found anyway of stopping it as yet.
Thank you Annasp! Yes same description and just finished with the platinum so maybe that. But each day (off the platinum now) its a little better but gets bad again after a day of chewing. Will mention it but if nothing can be done I guess its a waiting game. Appreciate the input Anne! oxox
Thank you, Maxjor. Due to implant reconstruction and the fix, the chemo is opening up all my sutures and draining 24/7. I had the fixed implant removed due to a staph infection and what I have left is my lattisimus muscle which is causing me severe pain, all due to chemo. So im pretty miserable as my plastic surgeon cant do anything for me until i finish chemo. Im glad you got through your treatments without much effect.
Can’t say anything useful about this but just wanted to wish you a happy discovery of what is behind it and then swift recovery from it. Take care xxx Netti
