Hi everyone I have ovarian cancer stage 3c and I am beginning a third round of platinum based chemotherapy. Iv also had breast cancer and am BRCA2 I know I’m eligible for Olaparib But was wondering should this treatment start when you’ve finished chemotherapy. Is anyone else on Olaparib and if so what were the circumstances in which it was prescribed. Many thanks 21752

Hi there I know there are a few ladies on here on the Olaparib so hopefully you should get a reply. The best places for information are the Ovacare coffee mornings. There is one in Sligo in a few week and one in Cork in November. You get a chance to meet with others with OC and gleam information and also make friends. But in the meantime hope some one answers you. all the best

Hi Suzuki thanks for replying, I was at one meeting in Galway but soon after disaster struck again I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I’m in hospital at the moment and I thought I was going to get a third line of Carbo followed by Olaparib but at this late stage it is being implied that there is a risk of a severe reaction if I get carbo again therefore I am being given a choice between Caelyx and Gemzar I am so mad this wasn’t mentioned on previous occasions and the thoughts of receiving Olaparib at least took the edge off being BRCA2. I’ve seen your message of 2 months ago and am wondering if that is why you didn’t get treatment in Dublin, wishing you all the best on this arduous journey. Carol(21752)

Hi Did you decide on your treatment, I remember you replied to me about 2 weeks ago when I was asking about Caelyx or Gemzar. We may have the same Prof and nurse, I demanded a second opinion after been told I was platinum resistant so went to Dublin and was offered Cisplatin to see how I take to it as they didn't want to say I was for sure and if I get a response this has been reported back to Prof I now await a decision if I can be treated in my local hospital or will they make me travel to Dublin I was also told about an oncofocus test this is more aimed at targeted therapy its different to the BRCA test it costs 1800euro. There are options for parb inhibitors for BRCA patients. I don't know which is worse sometimes fighting cancer or the medics for survival. Take Care, Clare xx

Hi coksd

I have started my treatment Carbo/Gemzar haven’t been good since first treatment had to get blood instead of second round. I’m still told I can get reaction to Carbo but I’ll keep going with it until something happens.

I’m pleased for you that you are having a response from the treatment you are on now and I really do hope that you are successful in your application to have this treatment locally.

It’s a long road but I’m convinced if we hang on in there a treatment will be discovered that will make this cancer easier to live with “live being the operative word”

Keep well everyone, best wishes 21752

Thank you for the info about the coffee mornings. I hadn’t heard about them. I’ll look into all that now.
