Hi - I'm 81 years old. I had a double mastectomy in 2022, and am taking Arimidex. My bone density went down rapidly to about -2.6 . My oncologist recommended an exercise company called Osteo Strong which I am trying out. I am skeptical about the claims to increase bone density since their research does not include comparison groups who did not complete the training. I do not know yet if I will continue. I am doing PT, daily treadmill, lifting weights. I will have a bone biopsy in a couple of weeks to see if I should be taking Proleia, or Forteo. I would like to avoid medication but maybe I should take it. Any helpful comments most appreciated! Varb

Arimidex is known to cause rapid bone loss. Any person prescribed this Breast Cancer drug should have a bone dexa scan before taking it, as it is not appropriate if you already have evidence of bone loss. It will cause Osteoporosis. Sadly, often the Medical Fraternity do not do appropriate checks to see if there are any underlying issues when prescribing drugs, and some patients unwittingly take them, and find out later they are badly affected by them. Best Wishes Tamms
I have been going to Osteo Strong about 3 years and my Dexa Scans have stayed about the same which is better than getting worse. I took Boniva for about 4.5 years and stopped a few months after starting OsteoStrong. Other people I know at OsteoStrong have improved Dexa Scans. I am still hoping for that. I don't want to take Osteoporosis medicines if I can help it. Each person's case is different though and there is a lot of information out there. It is difficult to know what to do sometimes. I am 62.
I have been taking reclast with no real issues. It is an annual injection. The first couple of days you feel achy, like the flu but then it's fine. I previously used Actonel, which was an oral bisphosphonate but it did not improve my Dexa score, the numbers kept getting worse. A nurse told me that the injections or infusions work much better to improve the Dexa score. Best of luck.
