I have Zoledronic acid infusion but have half dose every six months. Infusion done slow. I have history of drug reactions. But the way doctor ordered this infusion I have no problems.

Best to you. Hope this helps.

I’ve had two infusions so far and my third will be in Sept. I had absolutely no side effects whatsoever. I was nervous but both times went super well. Just be sure to drink LOTS of water the day before and day of and take Tylenol. I have my bone density scan next week so we’ll see what it looks like. Hope this helps!

Would you mind posting about your bone density results? I’m starting a 3 year course of annual infusions this fall.

I can’t advise you on whether to have the infusion, as I’m not a doctor. But I can tell you how I arrived at my decision to try it. I was diagnosed with OP 2.5 years ago at age 50. My scores weren’t that bad on my first DXA so I opted to try diet changes, supplements, and weight bearing exercises. The OP drugs and their side effects scared me to death, and honestly still do. Unfortunately, at my next DXA two years later, my spine score showed a “significant” decline and worse, my TBS score decreased as well. I had a consultation with an endocrinologist who specializes in OP and she recommended a 3 year course of annual infusions of zoledronic acid (Reclast). There is a woman in my town I’ve seen taking walks. She is all bent over at the waist. My endo said that would be due to spine fractures. I decided to risk the rare side effects of Reclast to hopefully avoid sharing that poor woman’s fate. My first infusion will be in a few months. If it helps, I watched a video on this forum’s site that featured experts talking about the OP drugs, including their side effects. It helped to set my mind at ease a little bit. Good luck to you in making your decision. It is so, so hard. Having OP sucks.

Definitely tough decision but I am like the lady in your town. Because it took change of docs had numerous fx of spine and not correct drugs I walk hunched over. Fx have stopped but no fixing damage to spine. Definitely changed my life. Try to be thankful finally got correct drugs at least I can walk not in a wheel chair. Nasty disease. So glad you got osteoporosis under control before it damaged your mobility.
