Hi, I’m set to receive my first Reclast injection soon. Also searching for a new Endo to help me get off all drugs as soon as possible (1-2-or 3 years?)
Transitioning off Prolia with Reclast - Osteoporosis Support
Transitioning off Prolia with Reclast
how does one get off osteoporosis med(s) permanently, and maintain a relative stable t score?
It depends which medication you're on. If you're taking a bisphosphonate like Alendronic Acid or Zolendronic Acid, you can stop safely any time and the medication should continue to have an effect for at least a year or two, if not much longer. With medication like denosumab (Prolia), romosozumab (Evenity) and teriparatide (Forsteo, Terrosa), you have to go onto another bone medication if you stop taking it.
Realistically we all lose bone density as we age, so it's bone strength we need to focus on rather than t-,scores and bone density. High impact exercise (so long as it's safe) and progressive resistance training are the most effective ways to improve bone strength, but it's also important to have a healthy diet and supplement as necessary.
Hi bellybuddie,
I too want off meds. I have only had 3 Prolia injections. Had purple skin rash and dermatologist HIGHLY recommended going off Prolia. I’m sure it will be an issue with my rheumatologist. I working on making appointment with endocrinologist at the Mayo Clinic. I think the 3rd injection is rearing its ugly head. I had broken my patella 3 years ago and was doing good with recovery back to walking 3 to 5 miles and going to gym for weights. Now it hurts a bunch. Even husband doesn’t think it’s a reaction to the injection but I do. Edited this 3rd in Nov I was doing good.
Have you had any luck in transitioning off meds? I’m doing 2000 mg D3, boron 35 mg and recently added vitamin k2 m7.
Hi! My final PROLIA injection was 7/7/23.
My first Reclast infusion is set for 7 1/2 months after last PROLIA (on 2/15/24.)
Since I haven’t fully switched over to Reclast yet & wont have a Dexa until 10/25….It’ll be 2 years of wondering how my bones are actually holding up. I’ll be sure to check in here!
Best to you in your journey
How many Prolia injections did you have? I had my 3rd one Nov 14.
I’ve had 7 PROLIA injections.
I have a 90 year old friend that started the same time I did, she’s just now after 6 months of hard work, begun to recover from 2 shattered bones following a small tumble. PROLIA makes our bones TOO dense & a fall shatters (vs breaks) bones. Because of that & all the scary side effects, I want off all OP meds. I’m working out at OsteoStrong & concentrating on magnesium & vit D in my careful diet.
I hope you continue to do well.
So you haven’t been on anything after that injection? Did they give you any hope of getting off all meds?
let me know your thoughts. I found a place where you can 75mg
It’s an interesting theory! I’ve jotted it down in my ‘OP idea book’. I’m not sure yet of the dosage. Many thanks!
there was a gentleman who just posted something good about boron . He had seen that video and was taking 2 tablets of 30 mg a day.
Oh, also interesting! What I’ve seen lately is only in the 9 mg range….i’ll keep researching. Thx much.
