Has anyone had good (or bad) luck with Forteo daily shots? I am still having fractures while on Prolia shots, so they want me to "upgrade" to Evenity or Forteo. I have a fair amount of input on Evenity, but none on Foreo. Any input would be appreciated.

Forteo input (good or bad)
In 2016-2018 I used Forteo and had some very good gains in my bone density. The only side effect I had with Forteo, was a muscle spasm in the middle of my back, almost immediately after my injection, but that pain only last about one hour or less. I only got the spasms sometimes, but not everyday.
I then used Prolia from 2019 -2023 and most recently on Evenity since June 2023.
I won’t know if Evenity is working for me until my next labs & my DEXA that’s due in March 2024.
If Evenity does not increase my bone density, I will go back on Forteo for an additional year which is now allowed.
Take care
Best of luck
Jemi7266, Thank you very much for you response about your results with Forteo. I appreciate it. Best of luck going forward.
I took Forteo very successfully a few ago but then was put on Reclast injections once per year. I did not know that now Forteo could be approved again for an additional year. I think I took Forteo for 3 yrs so don't know if I would qualify for it or my doc would want me to change back. Thanks for the information though. I hope you see bone improvement on the Evenity which I've not taken.
You must have taken Forteo after they approved the 3rd yr. So you probably used the maximum time allowed. But you can ask you physician about it.
How long have you been on Reclast and how do you like it? My endocrinologist recommended Reclast, but I was afraid of the possible side effects and especially how long the side effects could potentially last.
So instead, I chose Evenity.
Are you using Reclast to protect the bone density you gained with Forteo? Do you know yet if Reclast is working?
Jemi7266, Following Forteo, I was prescribed Reclast. After 5 yrs on it, doc said I had to off it for 1 yr. I had my 6th injection in August. Insurance requires a bone density test each year. While Forteo improved scores and Reclast did the first 2 years, now I take it to hopefully maintain gains made earlier. I turned 80 in August, had a bad fall from steep vacation back door steps landing on my head and back on the stone patio pavers. Two brain bleeds and ICU but no broken bones...really amazing!! Smiles
Hi, Bones4Me, When I took Forteo it worked very well for me. I was only allowed to take it for 3 yrs before having to go off of it. I had no adverse side effects of any kind and my bone density readings improved. I was sorry to be told that I would have to stop it. I was then put on Reclast injections once per year. After 5 yrs I had to take a 1 yr "vacation" from injections. Last month I had my 6th injection. I've not made the same gains with Reclast but not adverse side effects and have maintained the status quo readings so think it is working too.
I do daily Tymlos shots, which is the modern new Forteo. I think it’s the best option bc you have full control on the amount of medicine, you can gradually ease into the recommended daily amount. My top endocrinologist thinks it’s the best medicine available but the statistics say evenity is even better. I just didn’t want 30 days in me at a time.
can you say more about how you eased in to it? Eg How much at the beginning?
I took Forteo daily injections for two years. It definitely improved my bone density, and I didn't have any problems with it. I now take Alendronic Acid once a week to maintain the bone I gained.
