It’s quite ironic when Drs don’t tell you! You need to be your best advocate! Do your research.. organic health stores are the best resource

Doctors generally have no idea. Only aware of the drugs available and the first one to be offered is always alendronic acid. Also they are aware to provide a script for calcium and vitamin D combined. I had to see the doctor to only be prescribed vitamin D and show him a list of my daily intake of calcium. A female doctor may be more aware as she may be much more interested in osteoporosis as she could get this.

In fact, there is little evidence to show that a calcium supplement improves bone health if you already have a good intake through diet. Low calcium intake is detrimental to bones, but that doesn't mean the more calcium you take, the better your bones! As with so many things, you need to ensure you have a balanced diet with sufficient calcium to meet your needs, and only supplement to make up any shortfall. It's actually more common to be deficient in magnesium than calcium, another equally important bone nutrient! Likewise, unless you eat a lot of natto, it's almost impossible to get enough vitamin K2 from diet, and vitamin D intake is largely from sun exposure, which we get very little of in this part of the world!

Agree entirely. Calcium supplements have many side effects and cause arterial problems. Having diet high in calcium and taking Vit D with K2 will drive calcium into bones - where it should be.

Magnesium is an important co factor which aids absorption of calcium.
