I had Helicobacter infection which was found during endoscopy in Sep 22 with Mild Chronic Gastritis. Had the 14 days Antibiotics and PPI therapy.
But the symptoms of pain or burning sensation in the upper middle abdominal continued so was on pantoprazole 40mg for a year. Had also tried Omeprazole and Dexilant with not much success.
I can go for 3-4 months with little to no symptoms but then get a flare up with intense symptoms which can take 4 to 6 weeks to calm down with pantoprazole and Gaviscon extra strength.
I have had 2 further endoscopies - in March 23 and July 24 - and both confirmed that the helicobacter has been successfully eradicated but the mild chronic gastritis is still present.
Questions
1. Given our body's natural tendency to heal itself why hasn’t the gastritis healed 2 years after successful eradication of H pylori?
2. Is it normal to have these symptoms years after eradication?
3. Has anyone with similar condition post helicobacter eradication? How do you manage the condition? Has anyone completely recovered after successful eradication of H pylori?
4. Can the damage done by helicobacter be repaired? Any thing I can take to repair the mucosa?
5 Any medication for pain and spasm in the upper abdominal centre. Most medications are for lower bowel issues but haven't found anything for upper epigastric pain.
My gastroenterologist thinks that I shouldn't worry about the chronic gastritis as it is only mild and my symptoms are from functional dyspepsia. I am not sure if I agree with this diagnoses.
