Hi, I had a cough for about 14 weeks. Saw a doctor about 4 weeks ago, gave me antibiotics, steroids and an inhaler. Chest sounded clear. I was sent for a chest xray, which is clear. However I developed a feeling of tightness and sore throat and pressure and sought pain in my ears for about three weeks. Saw another Dr 10 days ago who gave me another course of antibiotics ( these haven't helped either). I have suffered with ibs and acid reflux for years, could this all be caused by acid reflux. Any advice very welcome. Thank you.

Cough 14 weeks and sore throat
Hi, yes it sounds like an acid reflux cough, I get the same, especially in the mornings. Nightime is worse for my reflux and I have to sleep almost sitting up otherwise my throat will be burned and red in the morning. I have been taking Omeprazole for 7 years and some of the side effects are muffled hearing and I also get a tight chest. I take Gaviscon Advance just before bed but still doesn't always hold back the acid volcano! Good luck, let's hope 2023 will bring us better health.
Hi Parkschool5, thanks for your reply, the problem I have is that I don’t feel like I’ve had an episode of reflux lately to cause this. I could be wrong, I just know I’m getting really tired and worried with it. Good health to you too for 2023🤞
Don't forget, there is also "silent reflux" which doesn't give any obvious symptoms of heartburn/gerd etc but still causes a cough/sore throat etc. Research "silent reflux".
Hi kahlkoff, thank you for your reply. Since I posted I’ve had a chest xray ( clear ) 2 sets of antibiotics, then a nasal spray. After Christmas and still with a sore throat, I was told I’d developed thrush because of the antibiotics, given a mouth wash. Yesterday I was told I’ve now got blisters in my throat and given another course of antibiotics and a mouth wash😱☹️. I feel so tired, aren’t sleeping and find swallowing uncomfortable. I’ll definitely look into silent reflux too. At this stage I’m open to any suggestions and advice. Thank you again👍.
Yes sounds like Silent reflux. I had the flu 3 months ago afterwards had this intense tickle throat followed by cough. On 3rd antibiotics as initially thought was an infection from allergy. My Doctor got in touch with a ENT ears, nose and throat said take Gaviscon double action so on my 2nd day with liquid as tablets didn't work. Got better. I'm still waiting a referral to Guys hospital to see a ENT. Though could take months, but if it gets better along with taking ompazerle will let you know!
Hi julesjas1970, thanks for your reply. I mentioned seeing at ENT, but was told no-one would see me with blisters. To be honest I'm 5 days in with this new course of antibiotics and feel no better. Like you 3 sets of antibiotics have made no difference. I'll get some Gaviscon, anything is worth a try. Hopefully you feel better soon👍. Yes please, let me know how your getting on.
