One thing I wanted to ask as i don't get any heartburn or food coming up after eating why do I get the feeling of something stuck in the throat or pain cross the chest? These symptoms alternate and come and go throughout the day
Is that also acid reflux? If so whats the science behind this?
I had endoscopy in October and that showed no hernia or esophagusritis or ulcer or gastritis. The biopsy showed H pylori presence.

Hi AMerchant. I also don't get heartburn but constantly feel like there is something stuck in my throat and have real problems swallowing...almost choke on the food and have tell myself how to swallow with every mouthful or it feels like it will go the wrong way. Constant sore throat. Omeprazole doesn't seem to help..I was sent to a consultant who said I had 'cobblestones' on my voice box along with the laryngospasms and he suggested 20 mg Omeprazole twice a day. I get tightness in my chest and sometimes difficulty breathing in the evenings when I am tired and can hardly speak . The consultant said it was Gerd but I eat a very good diet and have cut out all the suggested foods and drinks.
Why are you taking omeprazole if you have cobblestone? Omeprazole is for acidity? My symptoms are very similar to yours and mine is definitely over acid production
I get this and visible small ulcers in the back of my throat. They come and go and the medics have not been concerned. Had a scan, nothing visible. It appears to be a feature of acid reflux. I found Benzydamine mouthwash soothing.
I was referred to a gastroenterologist for what felt like a lump in my throat. I had an endoscopy, barium swallow and CT scan, nothing serious to report. (mild non-specific gastritis)
I did have occasional mild reflux - very mild. (My husband had quite severe reflux so I know what it is like.) I never took any antacids since I had no discomfort after eating. I didn't have problems lying down when I went to bed but I did have a slight cough and hoarseness.
The consultant concluded I had GERD and prescribed Omeprazole 40mg daily. I did as he suggested and NOW I have acid reflux and am taking Rennies on a regular basis. It seems that the cure for reflux became the cause.
I have read that this is not an uncommon reaction to Omeprazole. I stopped taking five/six weeks ago but I still have increased acid. Is this common? will it improve over time? it is as if having been stopped from producing acid as required my stomach has gone into over production!
The feeling of a lump in my throat is still there.
Gerd or gord is clinical names for acid reflux which in layman's terms also referred as heartburn.
Any acid suppression method for chronic GORD symptoms is not targeting the root cause in simplistic context. As the issue is anatomical and not otherwise could be fixed by medicines alone. In my unqualified view and experience.
Sudden stoppage from very high dose of ppi etc is going to cause significant rebound of acid production. The stoppage has to be over the period of time and stepwise manner. OP has mentioned the same as well.
I had to gradually reduced the dose of omeprazole from 40mg to 30mg to 20mg to 10mg and then 10mg alternate days. This is because of the acid rebound effect of stopping omeprazole suddenly.
Lump in the throat will also reduce once acidity returns to its normal level but until then you will need to manage it with diet and antacid
