Hi I was diagnosed with Silent Reflux 3 years ago and after trying several PPIs ended up on Famotidine which I took for several months and altered my diet no coffee, dairy plain food, small meals etc. This stopped the constant sorr throat - I didn’t have any sort cough even when diagnosed. I stopped the meds and have had no symptoms for a year. Then suddenly this awful started affecting my breathing - at one point I couldn’t climb stairs!!! GP sent me for ECG, blood test and chest X-ray - all clear! I’m again taking meds having self diagnosed it’s LPG but the dry cough and shortness of breath still a problem. Anyone else have this symptom?

Yes I'm due for an endoscopy in October I was supposed to have one April but couldn't as I was pregnant. I cough after eating food and have phlegm in my throat.
I find my reflux gets worse with the foods I eat and iam unable to drink squash as it comes back up.
I dry cough in the morning and clear my throat after meals. I did experience the lump in the throat a few months ago but that was when my anxiety was bad.
Also my friend has severe reflux to the point where she couldn't breathe properly and she sent herself to A&E she had an endoscopy and they found nothing wrong with her.
I think the only thing that has made somewhat of an improvement is eating more healthy and smaller meals.
This condition is so awful and I partly blame the amount of chemicals they put in the food. I hope you feel better soon, if you want to message me I will reply back, sometimes it's better to talk to someone who's going through the same thing as you.
Breathing is affected with acid reflux as the acid enters the oesophagus and is breathed into the lungs. It can also make you cough and have difficulty swallowing.
I have reflux and small hernia. I get cough from my reflux but also a cough from a dry mouth. I sip water ir suck a small sweet
I have had silent reflux for several years, and a large hiatus hernia, and take Pantoprazole daily. I have a cough, mainly in the morning, and often when eating, when fluid goes down the wrong way, but on the whole better than it has been. I have shortness of breath, but have heart trouble aswell, so as GP says, it could be from a range of things. I had problems swallowing and had a lot of help from a speech and language therapist who gave me exercises to help swallowing, and I had a barium swallow which identified a problem with a sort of loose flap near my epiglottis, and a problem with one of my vocal folds not working properly. At the moment I regard it as under control I take the PPI in the morning and a swig of Peptac/ Gaviscon at bed time. Because I know what the problems are, I tend not to worry, if I have a coughing fit. GPs tend to be concerned if you really have problems swallowing, because of the possibility of oesophagal cancer., but I take the things that keep it under control, and accept the odd coughing fit.
Hi all I thought I'd give you an update, I had an endoscopy early. they found polyps in my stomach and I have a sliding hiatus hernia, also they found my stomach indented from either a near by organ or mass pushing into my stomach, so I've had bloods they came back normal, and I have had a ct scan just waiting on the results of that. It's been quite of a shock and I've been ill with the stress, I hope everyone is OK and doing well
