I’ve been battling on and off with acid reflux for two years, with two recent endoscopies ruling out anything sinister, a 3cm sliding haitus hernia but nothing more.
PPI’s haven’t suited me very well, and more recently I’ve had great success with digestive enzymes and management of my diet. For the last two weeks however, I’ve been having difficulty swallowing and the feeling of food stuck in my throat, it’s making me really worried and frankly is a very frustrating symptom. To provide some more context, my home life has been very stressful following my mothers stroke so I Imagine the anxiety has contributed towards my symptoms.
Does anyone suffer from this symptom or share any advice on next steps?

I also have a small sliding hiatus hernia which causes the symptoms you are talking about. I often have a feeling of something stuck in my throat. Dry foods are the worst. I find chicken one of the main offenders.
Hi, that's great news that your Endoscopy was all good. Yes, I find bread stays in my throat despite drinking water afterwards. I definitely think anxiety makes it worse due to having tense muscles in the jaw and upper body. Also I think the meds tend to cause less saliva to help food go down.
Yes, l get food stuck as others have replied. It is worrying but if your endoscopy was ok then try not to worry. Stress alone can cause this to happen and you have that at the moment. Chicken always does this to me as does tablets.
thanks for the responses everyone, it’s become a really frustrating symptom! It feels like there is this constant mucus in the back of my throat, I had also thought it could be hayfever as I don’t have any other heartburn symptoms! Hopefully it will pass soon
I had problems with swallowing, and sometimes choking. I was referred to a Speech and Language Therapist, to my surprise as I didn't know they dealt with adult problems, but they do a lot with people who have MS, MND, Altzeimers etc who struggle to swallow. She was lovely and very helpful, made sure I had a barium swallow which videoed my swallowing foods of different thicknesses. I already knew I had a Vocal Fold not working properly, they identified a problem at the entrance to my epiglottis, where food tended to stick, but the other vocal folds were compensating for the one which wasn't working.Once I knew that it was nothing serious, she gave me some swallowing exercises to help. I think there might be some on the internet.. I still have some choking bouts, when food goes down the wrong way, but knowing what was causing it meant I worried less.
