Bone density and alendronic acid

I have PMR and take prednisolone for that, currently on 6mg daily. A GP I saw tried very hard to get me to take alendronic acid but I have silent reflux and find swallowing tablets difficult - they seem to get lodged in my oesophagus regardless of the quantity of water I drink with them. I pushed to have a DEXA scan which happened on Tuesday. The results have come back very quickly and I have now been asked to see my GP. When I made the appointment I was told it wasn't urgent but the receptionist couldn't find a T score on the report, only that my results were out of range. I am booked in to see the same GP who was pushing aa on me before and I am anxious about what to do. Does anyone know the alternatives? My diet is very rich in calcium, I take vit D intermittently and am very active.

I was put on Alendronic Acid (Fosamax) for Osteo issues and have regretted it ever since. I am 74 now, was 70 at the time. It made my Reflux horrendous. I was in a situation having a knee and hip replaced the same year and had fractures in y hip (all left side) due to accident and could not stand or even sit upright to take this nasty med. The year following I lost five teeth! I would not recommend it to anyone for anything.

Many thanks for your reply Minkies. I am going to refuse it based on your, and many others', experience and advice. I will also refuse to see the GP who was pushing me to take AA and was so unpleasant when I tried to explain why I wouldn't! I hope you are now getting on OK
