Hi, my GP suspects i have acid reflux/indigestion. Ive been suffering with anxiety and panic attacks and it seems to come on alongside the anxiety. Its getting better and ive been advised to take gaviscon 4 times a day and see how it goes. Ive really been aggravated by my throat though, whenever the indigestion flares up i get the typical lump feeling in the throat but this time has been different. My throat feels constricted sometimes and like a tension type feeling, as well trying to get over a hurdle when swallowing, its sometimes sore but it often goes away. Its not all the time, but uve noticed it the last few weeks and its gotten worse lately. Anyone else had this with acid reflux etc.
TIA

I’ve recently seen an ENT specialist concerning this. I also get reflux, though the jury is currently out on whether it’s acid or non acid reflux. The jury is also out on what is causing it. Stress and anxiety were top of the list for two or three years as far as the consultants were concerned (it is a known trigger) even though I was certain that had nothing to do with it. Getting reflux when I wasn’t stressed but not getting it when I was was a bit of a giveaway, but it took me three years to convince the specialists.
Certainly what you describe can occur as a result of reflux and if you have that sensation then really you should ask for a referral to an ENT specialist to get it checked out, which is what my GP requested when she heard that I was getting a feeling of unpleasant pressure on my larynx and had been getting it on and off for six months. In my case my larynx was found to be fine but it’s less certain what is causing the feeling of pressure on it: reflux or post nasal drip (a term the consultant I saw doesn’t like as it’s too general: everyone can get post nasal drip, but apparently there is a difference in what the general population get and what those suffering from allergic rhinitis get) or quite possibly both given the time of year and that there was plenty of evidence I was producing plenty of mucus resulting from allergic rhinitis.
Thanks Maggie im wondering the same, as my last bout of anxiety my jaw because so tense I couldn't rest it, it was awful for days. I had wondered if it was a mix if the anxiety and panic attacks and some sort of sinusitis because ive had on off occasions of pressure type feeling when i lay flat or bend my head down, my nose feels stuffy but not blocked and occasional headaches which i put down to the throat/neck tension.I was given nasal spray by the doctor which seemed to work but it may be back.
Hi Natalie 1982I have suffer over 15 years with this problem, then after tests found I had hiatus hernia.
The acid reflux was from constipation IBS with constipation, undigested food, ulcers on my throat, continuous post nasal drip, ulcers on my nose too, not lay down at night, tight clothing made it course, bending forward cause acid, food allergies and possible IBD.
Is they a link to IBD, food intolerance/allergies and thyroid problems?
Please ask GP to check this ok, as then I had to have a grade 4 nissen fundoplication surgery.
Please take care as this is a most debilitating problem and needs help. Good luck. Hope this helps.
A short while ago I was getting very painful heartburn (I also have IBS) and I did think that it was probably linked to constipation and also stress. 🙂
Yes I have constant contipation and this leads to hemroids, and gas bloat etc' its manage best you can' baking soda can stop reflux mixed with water I am going to try that'also apple cider vinegar
Really interested to read this, after taking antibiotics in April I got hit with digestive issues... (I have sinus issues that result in taking a nasal spray also) after a rough time on the antibiotics.. I went back to the doc as I had stomach pain, digestive issues and he diagnosed that I had tinkly bowel. I'm 1 month into probiotics but since then have had severe heart burn, upper back pain, Globus in my throat, tight throat, earache and the feeling of dryness in my throat when I try to swallow. Returned to the doc who did thoroughly check me over and has given me Omeprazole for a month. He believes my esophagus is inflamed (hence the pain) and needs time to heal. I'm 5 days into the Omeprazole. He's also referred me for abdomen scan and chest x-ray. I don't seem to be burping as much but still have the pain but online research seems to say it will take time for the inflammation to heal. The annoyance is the dry throat and The globus as it makes me panic that I can't swallow.. but anxiety defo makes the reflux worse...
I'm defo trying to lessen my anxiety and stress to help myself recover... But it's such a pain.
