Ocd memory hoarding

Please Can anyone help? As long as I can remember I’ve had terrible OCD (memory hoarding) it all started years ago when I started panicking if I lost certain pictures or items, then I started taking pictures of rooms so I know exactly how they looked etc, even down to taking pictures of clothing tags so I knew what they said on them. It got worse and then I had to record every single conversation I had on my phone, I’ve got memory sticks full. I needed to know what time they were sent and what they said. if I can’t get access to any information I needed I would freak and have panic attacks, to a point of being psychically sick and shaking. I had two operations at the beginning of this year, I was so frightened and my doc believes it has brought on PTSD. i have been put on Prozac which I have started taking today and also I have diazepam when I can’t sleep because of the thoughts. I suffer from Constant thought looping and recently I have a picture in my head of some people I met on holiday back in 2014. I didn’t get their names and my brain is looping on this. I feel like I’m going crazy, it’s all so irrelevant. I feel like I’ll never stop thinking about this and it’s making me not want to wake up in the morning, I’ve cried for hours today. what is wrong with me, can someone please relate to me. I feel that I am crazy. Thank you for reading ❤️

I remember previous posts from you about this. It must be very upsetting, particularly as you know it's all stuff you don't need to keep.

Of course you're not crazy! It's just OCD. It may well be related to the trauma of your surgery. People are having surgery every day, and most of it is perfectly routine and safe, but that doesn't mean it's not traumatic for the patient. Perhaps ask about treatment for PTSD. Trauma can trigger OCD.

Be careful with the tranquillizers, as Valium can be addictive, though it can be a help. I take an occasional dose of antihistamine if I'm stressed or having trouble sleeping but don't rely on it. I know how it is trying to sleep when your brain is going like the clappers!

It isn't easy to get rid of stuff, but perhaps write down a programme for doing it, as start with the easiest to dispense with. It can hurt, but once you've got rid, don't think back over it. Go at your own pace.

There are so many and they are so varied. It often feels like my brain is a computer with too many tabs open! It's a question of trying to manage it. I have to take things quite slowly.

I am also facing same problems as you mentioned but I am recovering by my own.... Actually it matters in what environment you are living? How many other important tasks you are assigned as if you are involved other tasks you will not get time to think such things... Dont drive yourself crazy thinking that you are mad or something.... This is not a very serious problem and you will be recovered soon... Loneliness, unsatisfactory life and disturbances in family are the main reasons for developing such problems...Hope things will be fine soon :)

They there, yes I can relate. I don't do exactly the same things as you with memory hoarding, but I could so easily go down that path and can understand the compulsion. There are quite a lot of things I don't do because I know if I start then it can be hard to stem the tide. Thinking of you and sending support.

Hi Charly - I am so sorry you are going through this. Your symptoms just sound like typical OCD to me. I am so glad you are starting Prozac. There are lots of medications to help OCD. It takes a while for some of them to take effect, so be sure to give it a fair chance. So many of us on this forum take medication and know how helpful it is for at least taking the edge off our OCD symptoms. Keep your hope up, because there IS hope. As your brain chemistry gets better, the things you are so worried about now won't seem very important to you or necessary to do at all. I said a prayer for you that you find all the help you need.
