i know not to go near chicken pox whilst taking mtx . Does the same thing apply to all childrens illnesses, measels and german measels, because my great grand son has a rash nobody knows what it is and he has now been sent to hospital.

I have a feeling that all viral infections are not good news for people with compromised immune systems like us MTX takers, and measles is viral too. Scarlet fever is bacterial, so may be less bad but not worth risking as it's an unpleasant disease. But if they're not sure what it is it could be anything! Can you call your rheumy team to ask? I'd be interested to know what they say, just in case my grandchildren come out in spots too one day. Polly
im hoping his rash isnt menigitis. let us know how he gets on. un diagnosed rash always a worry x, sometimes rash can be also caused by non specific virus and there has no name x
Hi Chris, we always isolate any children coming into surgery with a rash to avoid contact with any patients with compromised immunity. I know it's hard and you'll want to be with your loved ones but I'd advise you keep your distance and send your love and support from afar until you know whether or not the rash is caused by anything infectious. Think of it as being self-sacrificing and sparing your family the added worry of a sick nana x
thanks everybody for your answer, he was taken to the hospital as he hadnt had a wee all day as well. The docs couldnt make up her mind it could be German Measles as he hadnt any white spots at the back of his throat. in other words they didnt know, he did have a wee in the end but there was nothing wrong so it was part of the viral infection. He also has something wrong with his immune system which has got to be looked into awaiting appointment.
Poor little mite, i hope he's feeling better soon.

Thank god it wasnt menigitis.. when in retail pharmacyIi saved a babies life they bought him in all floppy and unrespoNsive.. i said straight to a and e.. they came back to me and thanked me A and E said it was the right cal and glad I sent him round.. the corner the hosp was less than half a mile !. he was given iv penicillin and was ok luckily.. it could have been so different.
. My aim is to help people and that was my proudest moment of my career. followed close bybanother patient ( different pharmacy) who was on verge of suicide. that was a quiet rural village pharmacy.. talked her round.. week lette myr boss/ pharmacy owner said I have surprise for you she had been in with thank you letterand chocs.
These things mean more to me than a huge salary which i do not earn..Ii get said that my illness( without free choice of best drugs has reduced me to a less uselful person.. now on v reduced hours with non caring employer nhs!!
This aside german measles can be nasty in small people there is small chance of some damage/ loss in hearing this is is not so common these days.. thinking of you
