Update on what's been going on.

I've been reading posts but haven't posted for a while.

I've got both OA & inflammatory arthritis & am on Plaquenil & sufasaalsine plus amytriptiline, Meloxicam, & solpadol.

I had to stop the sulph as it was thought that it was giving me bad taste/smell problems. Stopping it didn't improve the taste, so started back on it.

In the meantime I was diagnosed with a pituitary growth & am still undergoing investigations.

At the same time my left knee has got worse & was painful & very swollen, it was suggested that I needed an arthroscopy as the drugs weren't working.

I had it done yesterday, the news wasn't as good as I'd hoped, there is quite a lot of damage. The next op will be a replacement :( It has deteriorated quickly since an xray in March.

I don't know if the pituitary growth is causing some of the problems or I need to go onto others drugs such as Methotrexate.

Life isn't fun with this disease is it!?

Your quite right it is no fun. All i did today was walk round makro and i am in a bit of pain and the knee is swollen. Bag of peas on it now and staying off it for the rest of the day.

Best of luck when you do have your knee replacment. sylvi.xx

Oh Pauline

Im sorry to hear that you are having more problems and that you need a knee replacement.I am having a spinal op in November and have just been told to come off my Humira before the op and no steroids! So think i'm going to be uncomfortable, but when i get that fixed hopefully i can then at last be positive and start the physio and hydrotherapy and get moving better with less pain . Have you seen the OT for help yet? I got some crutches which have been very useful when i am sore on the knees feet and ankles.

So thinking of you, let us know what happens with the pituitary thing and hope the results all turn out ok. ;) Axx

Hello Pauline,

my knees deteriorated very quickly too - I had an okay x-ray at end of February & then one in mid June showed a lot of damage. I tend to think that things are still deteriorating. I'm doing what I can to get more help.

All I really wanted to say is that someone I know is currently recovering very well from a knee replacement. His problem was not arthritis but I think he did have quite a lot of damage to bone. Despite being a very laid back person he didn't seem to expect too much from the operation but less than three months down the line he is now doing the normal things he likes to do e.g. chopping down trees and so on! I believe he's very pleased with the result.

His experience gives me some hope though I won't be satisfied until I see him doing an Irish jig down the lane! When that happens I'll let you know.

Sorry to hear you are having such a difficult time. Good luck with the investigations.

Christina xx
