I am just about to start treatment with Adalimumab. Do you know if they can put this medication under a scanner at the airport? I already have this medication at home but I can't find any information about it in the leaflet. Do you transport it in some tiny refrigerators or can I just throw it in a bag in the packaging? Thank you

I put my meds including biologics in hand luggage. With prescription and in a cold bag although latest info is that it can be kept out of fridge for 30 days and used but not to be put back in fridge. I bought the cold bag off Amazon as although one could be supplied we travel a bit and it just seemed easier to have one at home. I’d urge you to contact your supplier for information regarding travel transportation. I’ve never had it questioned but would not put in hold in case of lost luggage and it might be too cold.
Always put medication in your hand luggage. Ask the company who supplies it for a travel letter. Check the patient information leaflet. Most biologics can be left out of the fridge (as long as you use it and don’t put it back in a fridge) for a couple of weeks so depending on where and for how long you’re travelling you may not need to worry about a cool bag for it.
Hi I believe Adalimumab can be left out of a fridge for 2 weeks as long as it didn’t go over 25 degrees. You should be able to check that out. Personally I have always travelled with a cool bag & ice packs. I allow the bag & ice pack through the scanner but always ask then to swab the box of injections separately. I get a yearly travel letter from my delivery company currently Lloyds. If you have any queries give your delivery company a call.
Ok looked this up but was a bit pick and mix where I got info from. It's often mention in information sheets supplied by various hospital trusts that came up in searches.
Basically as other have said pack in a cool bag with icepack wrapped in a towel, don't let the ice pack on it's own contact the medication. Biologics need to be cool not frozen, all in your info sheet supplied with the meds.
Next it is ok for it to go through scanners/x-ray machines at the airport but suggests we can ask that an inspection of the meds in our bag can be done. Letter from RA consultant, medication card, from the company, prescription, all should satisfy security at the airport.
I’m on Benepali and when I asked the pharmacist that works for the delivery company, he advised I contact the manufacturer re scanning. I received an email from the company advising me to avoid putting it in the scanner, and get it swabbed instead. This was 8yr ago, so their view may have changed.
