Hi. First time posting. My father was admitted into hospital 3 weeks ago with a chest infection (he’s never really been ill), however this has set off his RA in a really bad way to the point he is still in hospital. They have tried him on 4 antibiotics so far and are running further tests. The respiratory team are coordinating with the rheumatology as they think his breathing problems are related. I hate seeing him this way as he feels low in himself too. Does anyone have any advice please for supporting him through this. Thank you. X
support please: Hi. First time posting. My father was... - NRAS
support please
Yes. Just be there. Chest infections can be difficult to get rid of. My sister in law got through 3/4 antibios before they found the one that did the trick. He’s in the right place. I trust he’s off his meds whilst he’s poorly. Hugs to you both. Let us know how you get on. Xx
Good post Madmusiclover
just to be with him as much as possible, perhaps take some fresh nourishing snacks/juices/ to supplement hospital food
Having someone who is as obviously loving as you in his life will be the best support.
I guess you'll have to trust the care team in the medical side. Your presence and reassurance will be a great help to him as well. I know it's very difficult at times like these, but a bit of laughter is a great healer. I had the worst year if my life and one if the factors that helped me through it was humour. I wish you both all the best.
just being there for him is the most important. I was in a similar position with my husband. He wasn’t eating much which didn’t help things so maybe try taking in his favourite treats and snacks might stimulate his appetite and healing. M x
I'm sorry to hear your father is in hospital. He is in the right place for now. Support him with healthy food, and just being there will help him massively.
Once his chest infection is under control and he's back on his RA meds, maybe think about preventative measures for his immune system. I take potent doTERRA LLV supplements and essential oils to support my pharmaceutical meds and it has helped me greatly both in terms of infections and inflammation, as well as other aspects.
Obviously check it with the consultant, as I did, but having an alternative programme that supports your whole system can make a huge difference complimenting the RA meds. I hope your dad is home soon xx
