Wrist support help
Maybe you could self refer yourself to a physio and they would get one for you. I bought ones of internet but found they were far too tight so a waste of money.
Hi I've had a few sometimes it trial and error I bought one from boots it was ok £18
Then someone recommended the ones from
Argos
found the Argos ones a lot better
I've bought 2 the shorter one and the longer one , from argos and they are good maybe worth a try to see if any good for yourself
There's 2 types I've bought, theshorter 1 £16 without brace i prefer that but other one is ok as well £18
They are
NEO G stabilized wrist brace £18
NEO G wrist support £16 (that's the shorter one ) found this one good
P.s update the ot and physio said can get them out shop and ok and saves yiu waiting for responses and delays
Fron ot and physio ra departments
One size does not fit all and it depends on the size and shape of your hands and which you find more comfortable for you. It is like selecting a comfortable pair of shoes.I also bought the NEO G stabilized wrist brace from boots for £18 and it covers other parts of my hand besides the wrist. I sometimes take out a metal bar that goes over the palm area. The boots ones are a good fit for me. My hands do get hot and sweaty in them sometimes when wearing them for too long. I had previously been given ones from my rheumatologist but these were not a comfortable fit for me. Some hospitals might have a range to choose from. They might have ones they can make to measure. I think some larger hospital departments might do this.
Hi, I have the same problem, rang hospital ra dept and they sent me to there physio she made me a support to wear when it gets bad also gave me support gloves and thick fingerless thermal gloves for the winter to wear when I go out side. Good luck.
RA units should have dedicated Occupational Therapists attached to them. Ask your unit for a referral and they will assess which type is the best for you and supply the right size and fit.
RA guy’s advice is spot on. I have always been fitted for wrist splints by an attached OT team who can measure you for the correct sizing and comfort.
Ask your rheumy team for advice…you need the correct support…the wrong one could make things worse.
I agree with other comments here. I did a self referral for occupational therapy at my local hospital and met with a guy who specialised with hand/wrist problems. He gave me a splint which was measured and fitted perfectly and it has helped so much. I have bought about 4 different versions and none of them have been as good as the one I had from the hospital. The only downside is in my area, the appointment took about 3 months to come through
I use this one it has a padded section for the palm and it’s really comfortable. M x
Hi, rheumatology referred me to occupational therapy and they supplied me with wrist supports. They said they're different from ones you can buy as a lot of them are for carpal tunnel and we need different ones for rheumatoid arthritis. Hope this helps.
Don't hesitate to let your Rheumy team know you have a problem and ask to be referred to a Hand therapist/Occupational therapist/Physio, whichever they have on their team. From the hand therapist I was given wrist supports, compression gloves and a set of exercises to try to improve things. Later it became obvious I had developed carpal tunnel problems and got a referral to an orthopedic hand consultant.
