Depomedrone injection

Hi everyone

Does anybody know if I can have a depomedrone injection if I’m having surgery in about five weeks time ?

I came off my Methotrexate to have my vaccines and now have a flare. When I had one back in May it really helped .

I would have thought not. My rheumatologist declined to give me a steroid injection in my knee, as he’s referring me urgently for surgery. Obviously that will be longer than 5 weeks away. Steroids at higher doses can delay healing and increase the risk of infection.

Thanks I thought that might be the case .

I was looking it up and some sites state one month and some say three months .

The only people to ask are your health professionals who will treat you and carry out your surgery. The surgeon should consult with your rheumatologist as it’s ultimately their risk. It’s unlikely this close to surgery you’d have a depot shot . Hope all goes well and you’re in less pain whatever bit of you is being operated on!

Thank you . It’s my eye and I’m normally quite brave but I don’t feel very brave at the moment !

You need to take advice from your surgeon as ultimately it’s their decision. They may be willing to go with the advice of your rheumatologist. They will need to balance the increased risk of infection from the steroid shot against the increased risk of infection and slower recovery from the flare.
