Hi am I right in thinking surgery for carpel is minor and I will be back to normal in no time?
Carpel tunnel : Hi am I right in thinking surgery for... - NRAS
Carpel tunnel
YES..it’s just a nuisance,,,,,I had a carpal tunnel decompression in February & was driving a couple of days later. Surgeon did advise to wait a few days longer but an emergency arose & I had to drive sooner…& he was fine with that. I had very little pain.
I had the right wrist operated on,& I’m right handed,…It’s the silly little things that hold you back….like controlling an electric toothbrush!
Do get a shower sleeve as you have to keep the incision dry until the stitches are out.
I can’t even see the scar now…...,having the left wrist done soon. Hope yours goes well.
Yes it is considered minor surgery however when l had it done l was in a sing for approx 6 weeks and unable to drive usually done in day surgery but need someone at home with you overnight . We'll worth having it do e good luck
It is usually done under a LA these days & there is no rule that you need to be accompanied over night…unless there is some other clinical reason.
I was 80+ when I had it done…& I was “let out” as soon as I wanted to leave.
All hospitals have different rules but that is common in my area that l live in after minor ops when you have had a general anaesthetic , l too am in my 80s and have RA but general good health l only mentioned that as l am widowed and live alone now which also makes a difference .for me but in 53 yrs of experience working in hospitals changes happen all the time . Good wishes to yo
I live alone too, & I was actually given the choice…but as I was paying I declined their offer to pay to spend the night!!But tbh with a LA it’s not really too stressful is it?
Amazingly I have been quoted less for the same procedure on the other wrist…but as that wrist seems to be less painful since I had the first procedure….I’m in no hurry to give them any more money!
Yes it is considered minor surgery, in my case the relief after having it done was brilliant a little uncomfortable whilst the stitches were in but well worth it.
Hi Vonnie, I had mine some 24 years ago, not had any problem to date, wonderfull prosedure. excuse spelling.
My dad healed really quickly from it even though he was older
Thankyou everyone looking forward to getting it done sorted out once and for all.
Have you had the steroid injection? It worked for me and that was a number of years ago.
Yes, I nursed patients after this surgery. Generally done under local anaesthetic, home the same day. Keep arm elevated, and on a pillow overnight, to keep swelling down.
