Hi my mum is travelling to Poland for one month on the 28th of July. She is currently administrating Benepali injections herself on a weekly basis. Can anyone please let me know the best way to transport these injections and what temperature to store them at. I have investigated some option to buy a cool bag, but I am not sure exactly what to buy. As she cannot fly she will be travelling by bus and this will take around 24 hours. Any help would be appreciated.

You can use Benepali for 4 weeks when it's out of a fridge so your mum would be fine to take them in her hand luggage. Just don't put them back into a fridge.

It's okay for 4 weeks as long as the temperature doesn't go above 25 degrees.

i’m not sure how much time you have, but you could contact or the Beniplali pharmaceutical company ,and they will Mail to you their traveling Bag with special cooling sachets and instructions …I did that when traveling with Orencia to Europe .

……sorry ,forgot to say it was long trip ,and my medicine was fine . When you travel by plane they ask you to take your prescription with you to show them. What it is you are carrying on?

i think you might be in the US? This doesn’t happen in UK! (Maybe because we get our drugs for free😀)

I am in America … but I’m talking about the caring bag for medicine ,not the medicine :)

that was obvious! But because of the way our national health service works which is free at the point of service we don’t have a contract with the pharmaceutical company and it is rare that they will provide any extras. Sometimes you get lucky of course! And sometimes the company that facilitates you getting the drug will oblige. But a very different system.

hi helhelix, I was on Benapali then Erecept, these came by car from the biologic company. Any problem I had they dealt with immediately !! I had virtually no contact with the hospital and my GP practice would not discuss anything to do with biologics.

The poster was referring to her drugs being delivered to her home (a car is not a bus in English), not that they would deliver elsewhere.

Most people on here an British not American.

If all else fails what about small cool bag plus some twist to activate instant ice packs? I bought them for my husband when he had a hip replacement and needed ice packs

Frio products used often by diabetics may be useful in this case.

I used Frio products when I was on that medication. I carried a letter from Healthcare at home pharmacist to give details of the medication for my individual use. I declared it at security so that it did not go through the scanner.. I know Health care at home has changed its name. Good luck,

Contact the company that supplies it (eg Sciencus, Lloyds pharmacy at home etc) and ask to speak to their pharmacist. They will be able to tell you the best way to transport it. Please double check with the pharmacist but if I remember correctly benpali can be stored at room temperature for up to 4 weeks so no special equipment needed. When I’ve traveled in the past I’ve kept them in their original packaging and put them inside a large plastic container to give them a bit more protection.

I travel with Benepali. I purchased a Medactiv icool bag to carry mine. It kept them below 8 degrees. As someone else mentioned they can be kept at room temperature for 4 weeks, as long as it doesn’t exceed 25 degrees, which considering current temperatures in Europe is a possibility. Not sure how many custom checks she’ll pass through, but either the rheumatologist or the company distributing the injections, needs to issue a letter authorising you to carry them on your person. If there was a way of renewing ice packs en route that would be good. Mine lasted for the 12hrs I needed. Re sharps, I just brought the pens back in hee same case and put them in my sharps bin at home. You can get a small sharps bin though if you want.

Amazon sell frio bags which are excellent. They are used for diabetics who have to carry insulin and I've never had a problem with them.

There fine in a cool bag , but don't put them back in the fridge, I would be more concerned about polish customs to see if they have any restrictions, or bell the polish embassy and ask them? most embassies are very helpful.

simple way is to store them in a cool bag as hand luggage - they can’t go in the hold - I travel a lot and bring mine this way

Google Frio, I’ve just taken two away with me in one and it kept them cool until needed but as already said they can be hept out of the fridge as long as they don’t get too hot. The pil will give you the information you need.

Try the Frio cool bags from the diabetes uk. On their website go to the shop and diabetes management. You can bags that keep cool enough. Research which you will need as the smallest only holds 2 pens. I went to France for 2 weeks and it worked fine. Good luck.
