methotrexate covid booster: hi everyone. ,due to have... - NRAS
methotrexate covid booster
The advice (which I follow) from my rheumy and immunologist re Mtx was pause one week before and two after but they say that was being extra cautious for two after as I’d had zero antibodies to my vaccines due to (Rtx and) Mtx. It also depends on how quickly you usually flare/go downhill without your meds. Differing views.
Hi. I missed 2 mxt doses before and 2 after last but one booster and had a big flare up. My Rheumatologist said that I should just miss 2 after the next booster which I have done. I am ok so far.
I stopped methotrexate 2 weeks after and kept my biologic and was in a study with arthritis research Canada which showed I developed antibodies equal to that of a young healthy person as opposed to the tired old bat that I am! Great news. Touch wood. It also showed I never got covid. I am both careful and very fortunate.
I had mine 3 weeks ago. The vaccine was on a Tuesday, and I normally take MTX on a Wednesday. I just omitted the 2 MTX after the vaccine. Sadly I’m in a flare, but I had missed 3 weeks a few weeks earlier due to infection.
I missed two after vaccine.
Rheumatologist and GP both advised me not necessary to avoid MTX . I'm on 15mg a week injection.
I had my 7 th covid vaccination on May 1st . It was VidPrevtyn Beta , the new Sanofi vaccine for older people and the immunocompromised ( at 81 , with RA , I'm both 😁 ) . I understand it is a monovalent and adjuvanted vaccine . Previously, I'd had Moderna and Pfizer ( mRNA ) as boosters . These latter two vaccinations made me feel quite poorly ( they affected my 80 year old , non RA , husband as well ) .
This time I felt slightly "off" for a day and had a sore arm for about 3 days . So for me , and my husband , it will be the vaccination of choice . Should we ever get a choice . 🤔
I must add that , fortunately , we've not had covid , so none of these vaccinations have been put to the test . Also , I have never stopped taking my weekly 20mg , methotrexate .
This is a question with no specific answer - it does depend on your rheumatology team and how they view your particular needs.
I have continued to have my weekly methotrexate injections (10mg) as usual - with no pause for the covid vax. But that's a very personal choice - my rheumy team advised it; I'm not inclined to flare at all these days. I gave up the biologic a year ago. I had been taking it for a couple of years but have had no repercussions. I now rely enirely on the methotrexate.
This Spring's vaccine is my 8th and on one occasion I had the vaccine and methotrexate on the same day.
