Not sure whether to have it do you have to stop methotrexate before?
Covid booster : Not sure whether to have it do you have... - NRAS
Covid booster
I don't think so darling. xxx
have it! It’s not gone away you could get ill or develop long covid. And protect others who could!
Take advice from your rheumatology department about whether to stop methotrexate. There was some research that showed you get a better response from the vaccination if you stop methotrexate after the injection, however it depends on your risk of flaring.
As Bpeal1 says, there is research showing a better response in MTX patients, who miss 2 weeks of MTX following vaccination. 💉 should be discussed with your rheumatologist, whether this is safe for you, or if it risks a flare. Here’s some info on the Vroom study
Discuss with RA specialist nurse. I'm just weighing up about it at present and I know I will be travelling to Europe also know will mis more in the summer. So I expect I will have it but really you need to weigh up your circumstances & decide what's best for you.
I stopped methotrexate for my last covid jab. Made me realised after two weeks that it was the MTX that was making me feel ill, not the PsA. Sadly my rheumatologist refused to let me try anything else so now I am taking nothing, so don't get the covid jab and get to have more flares 🤷♀️
I stop the next two methotrexate injections after the Covid jab. I’ve not checked with medics to be honest, but they say I’m in “remission” so I always miss the following two shots of methotrexate. Going for booster on Monday.
I was told to leave off metho for two weeks after x
I was told by rheumy nurse to take two week break but unfortunately this led to a very, very bad flare. I've been reading contradictory studies on this recently. Some say....yes take two week break to get the best protection from the vaccine and others say doing so makes little difference, other than leading to increased flares, especially in those with less well controlled disease. I thought about not having this booster but have decided to have it but not come off meds this time. I'm aware this might reduce efficacy but I figure it should be better than not at all. We all have to do what we think is best for ourselves I suppose.

This is an article in the lancet discussing suspending mtx after the booster
I was on Methotrexate for over a year, and had to get a mandatory covid injection because Methotrexate makes you immunocompromised, and it's more dangerous if you catch covid without the injection. I was asked to take the shot by my internal medicine doctor at the hospital, and confirmed by my GP. It didn't affect my treatment, and it was out of the question to stop my treatment for the covid shot, it's just a plus for your immune system.
