Bottle openers

Good morning folks, any suggestions for gadgets to open 'SQUEEZE & TWIST" please? I have various openers but they don't work with the squeeze & twist openings, have resorted to asking my postperson (who will be rewarded at Easter) and a cashier if I realise what type of opening it is before leaving the shop. I don't have the strength now in my hands. Thank you.🐕 🐕

I have an assortment of gadgets for opening containers of various sizes but for squeeze and twist I find nut crackers the most useful.

I use a knife!! If u can hold the handle of a butter knife...pop the tip under thr lid of a jar and pop thr lid...it releases the pressure of the jar and the lid opens with a n easy twist...my 98yr old granny showed me that abkut 10yrs ago!!!!

but this won’t work on lids you need to squeeze and twist as asked.

if my husband isn’t around I use a pair of slip joint pliers!

It helps if you use one of the devices which breaks the vacuum by lifting the edge of the lid. I have two of the silicone gripper pads. You use one on the lid and the other on the jar or bottle. The problem is not only gripping the lid but stopping the jar moving at the same time. The silicone gripper increases the friction so that you don't need to squeeze so hard.

They have loads of uses. I use mine to remove flush ceiling mounted bulbs and taking the seal off ChapStick lipsalves. They are cheap and take up no space in your drawer.

but won’t work for squeeze and twist Lids like they are asking for help with.

After I posted I noticed that they were your particular problem. However I hope my suggestion helps others.

For things like bleach bottles "water pump pliers" might be worth trying. You really don't need an expensive set. They can easily be set to different widths to suit the top you are dealing with and aren't too clumsy.

I hit the top with a large carving knife which has a point on the end to release the vacuum - then I can use the ordinary squeezy turner to open the jar.

don’t the contents leak if it’s then knocked over with a hole in the lid and you’d have ie bleach everywhere

I have a flat bottom basket with cleaning stuff. But I don't use bleach because of ecological concerns. I've not had problems with things falling over and it's a tiny hole in the lid. It's mostly pickle and marmalade jars.

bleach was just an example, I don’t use it either but couldn’t think of anything with a squeezy top 😂

I find the Dycem bottle & jar opener works well on squeeze & twist type tops. Bleach bottles always defeated me.

I find these too thick to be able to push in the bit that you need to squeeze but maybe that’s me being weedy 😊

It's all down to technique 🤪. I push with the heel of my hand, it clicks & then opens easily I find. I buy 5L bottles of Domestos & the tops are push, click & open. I dispense into the smaller 750ml bottles. Those tops are a little trickier, the pinch & turn type, but I only fill to around half & don't fully lock the top. There's only the 2 of us & I've been doing it so long that we know it's not locked.
