You could not make this up !

I had the Shingles vaccine in October but have Shingles again so saw GP who noticed a large which when pressed was even sorer than the bit of a rash, lump under the rash and so off to the new Urgent Treatment Centre to witness an elderly lady being abused by a very aggressive mum with an obnoxious 5 year old over nothing. The nurses tried to help but misunderstood the mum was nasty and all us patients waiting were saying it was her being nasty and that lady is playing the " racial card but the kid pushed the elderly lady" etc etc. It was worse than a tv programme.

Anyway the antibiotic injection I had done on the 17 th for a Cystoscopy had given me a haemotoma and set off the Shingles. So a sofa day today and possably for another week and the advice was never let a doctor give you an injection and ask for the nurse because they aren't very good at it and in my case he hit a blood vessel which has bleed and clotted in my thigh muscle. It really hurts today so after the Shingrex vaccine not actually working very well and that did hurt, and the Gentamyacin injection giving me the haematoma things are a bit weird. The GP who yesterday sent me to the UTC rang just now to see how I got on which was amazing and laughed out loud to listen to how I'd gone for a quick scan, but actually spent 5 hours in the UTC, had 2 scans, saw a fight and finally to add insult to injury had an arterial blood gas test which is really horrific and so painful, that included 3 hours on a trolley, a line for fluids and then the worst ham sandwich ever sold, I saw a consultant who said that his wife had this happen and no cure just ice and if it gets even worse come back but it really is just bed rest anyway. And that was after a lot of oh that looks nasty.... and so painful. So Yellowstone for the rest of the day and at least its happened before going away next week.

Why didn't the doctor give you any Anti- virals ?? This will help stop it and put it into remission.

(Shingrix)

Shingles vaccination is a very nasty vac. If you ask me .

I went thru 5 1/2 months of such intense pain it felt like the large nerves running down my arms to hands and the sciatic nerves running down my legs to feet were literally on FIRE for 5 1/2 months 24 hours a day !!! It was a nite mare. Doctor was no help just treated me like hysterical female .

Finally my Chiropractor figured it out . He called it an Internal Shingles. He explained that the shot had re-activated the chicken pox in the nerves ( this is what Shingles is a reactivation of chicken pox you had as a child as it never really goes away stays in the body dormant ) .

So it was giving immense pain but not popping out on skin .

The immune system is weak with the Lupus of corse .

So then they kept calling me saying time for your 2 nd Shingles shot .

I told them NO way I am ever getting another one !!!

I've been on antivirals for years as I had Shingles so badly years ago I was admitted to hospital, and the Shingrex vaccine was supposed to stop it again but it hasn't nor did taking Acyclovir but its not as bad as it could have been without them. I had both too. They did warn me it didn't always work but did stop it being so bad.

I suggested to the radiographer that when the did the CT following the cystoscopy that it would help if Kevin Costner or George Clooney gave the instructions he laughed and said "knowing Medway hospital it'd be Mr Bean!" and he was probably right.

Bit off topic but at my surgery when ladies go for a smear test there is a picture of David Beckham on the ceiling above the couch! Not sure the “woke” brigade would approve 😝

I had shingles many years ago and was given antivirals. Then before I started biological treatment I was given the shingles vaccine aged 69. I didn't find it horrible! Only need one dose

sounds horrendous. Hopefully the ice quickly gets it reducing in size and the pain eases. I agree re Drs doing injections, they don’t do as many, with the exception of joint injections, so always best to get a nurse to do. It’s unfortunate you get shingles after getting the vaccine. Hope it eases soon 🤗

Blimey sounds like an awful ordeal. Rest up and hope you improve very soon. I’ve decided as I’ve failed two pneumococcal vaccines that I won’t have the shingrex vaccine as there’s probably no point and to be honest I’m not old enough for it anyway, they’d want to give me the live version which is an absolute no no. Keep that sense of humour you’ll probably need it for a few days. Enjoy your time away too that will be a good distraction with any luck.

You are having a tough time and I hope you make good progress now. It's amazing how other people behave sometimes too!

But remember that we often don't make a good response to vaccines, whatever variety. That isn't a reason not to have them though.

This will apply to the Shingles vaccine just as it will to others like the Covid ones. So it's unfortunate that the vaccine hasn't protected you -antibody production is after all just a response to an invader whether it is in the form of reduced and weakened vaccine or a full blown viral or bacterial infection.

It's just that having a vaccine may reduce the effects of a later infection by helping the body to make the memory cells which will then produce antibodies against that infection. It's a salutory thought that it might have been even worse!

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
