Hi all. Any suggestions on a plastic water bottle screw cap opener please? I wondered if there were any electric ones anybody has found? X

Looked at my kitchen scissors late last night. Mine have them too. Tried it last night and it worked! All this time struggling with water bottles and they were there all the time! I'd never noticed!

I have scissors like those, I didn't realise that the jagged bits on the handle were a bottle lid opener 🤭

I use one like this, you don’t have to squeeze it just push it onto the top of the bottle and turn the handle. It’ll also open ring pulls

I have one of them but I found it only worked on some bottles and then just slides on others x

I have a gadget that I can only describe as a long strip of black rubber that you attach to the bottle lid, tighten and pull. It is great but I can't remember where I got it or it's make. Sorry, not very helpful but someone else on here might have one and be able to supply the necessary information.

Hi, Haz58 I use a piece of nonslip mat, the sort you use under rugs or table mats to stop them moving. It looks like a silicone mesh. If that fails I ask my Husband.

Ooh I've got some of that. Hubby has trouble now too.

That's what I use. Found this the most effective.

That's what I use too. I have one piece to hold the bottom of the jar/bottle to stop it slipping and a piece to twist the top off - it works a treat!

I have some blue non-slip plasticky material. Very useful for opening things.

on bottles with seals I run knife round .Have to do this with some of my medicine containers. They supply drugs but with bad hands you can’t get into them.with jars I prize handle of spoon etc under seal to release the air then hey presto lid turns

I got one of these for pressure sealed jars, they are brilliant.

They are difficult without an aid I agree. I use a Dycem jar opener. They do a bottle opener but it’s smaller & the jar one does both jobs. Helpful for stubborn nail varnish bottles too. I wish more companies would be like Orly & make them non slip.

I find the silicone grippers for opening jars have loads of uses. I have used mine for all types of screwtops. I have flush ceiling lights in the kitchen and the gripper makes it easy to turn the bulb if I need to change one.I was just thinking that a pair would be useful sometimes with one for each hand.

hi I use this & it fits on any size bottle. Just fasten loop round tighten then twist. It’s called a Boa Constrictor. Think I got it in Lakeland but sure they are widely available.

👍 it’s good isn’t it x

I had one of these given me early on so must be about 13 years ago. I must have been using it incorrectly though because it didn’t grip enough to open jars or bottle tops. Mine was yellow with black rubber-type band... doubt that makes any difference though! 😉

Otto11 profile image
Otto11 in reply tonomoreheels

That’s odd as mine works great on bottles & jars. 🤷🏻‍♀️ different brand maybe x

You could have a point there. Although I think the user may have more to do with it! I lost patience & found something that worked for me so it was relogated to the back of the kitchen drawer. 🤣

I have a few gadgets that have been relocated too 😀

I had one of these once Otto, I found it too fiddly for my fingers and it took me ages to get it on the bottle right. That’s just me and my fingers and why it’s important to try aids if possible before you buy.

Otto11 profile image
Otto11 in reply toKittyJ

Yes that would be good to try before you buy. I guess an OT could help with that but I'm sure I'm not alone saying I have bought things that just dont work out for me. Its bad when they are expensive. x

Haz58 in reply toOtto11

That's why I buy from Amazon as I can send them back if no good. I can't out shopping at the mo so Amazon is a bonus for me.

hi, Haz! I use a round (4”) flexible gripper. It helps. Trouble is I don’t know for how long. 😞

Wearing a pair of rubber/washing up gloves also helps you grip jars and bottles whilst opening the lid.

That's what I used to do before I had my Dycem jar opener.
