Hi, I live in Sevenoaks and have had RA for over four years. I don’t think there is rheumatology at Sevenoaks hospital. When I was referred it was to Maidstone. The wait for a consultation was so long that I obtained an appointment at Guy’s. Would recommend Guy’s on the whole! Good luck!

thanks tsom my dad has had 2 appointments there and they aren’t great at keeping an eye on him. No contact number given if he needs to contact them.

My team at Orpington are great but my dad is not getting that kind of care from his team.

Sorry to hear about your dad. Guy’s operates a remote monitoring service and there is also the ability to speak on the phone to a rheumatology nurse. It’s a bit of a lottery what each of the hospitals offers.

I am under the very much maligned Medway Maritime and will honestly say their RA department is very good. It is as usual under tremendous pressure but the help line works and they do ring back. It is always possible to get an RA secretary to contact consultant if an emergancy and I'm seen every six months. I have turned down appointments as nothing wrong and RA in drug induced remission and bloods are fine. I know its a away away and parking is dreadful and expensive too. The cafe is best avoided but the actual care is good. I have had to wait as appointments are never on time but thats ok and just take a book. I'd add that the RA registrar found my kidney failure and got me in that day had he not acted so fast I'd have died. The drug induced kidney failure was not due to an RA drug but the blood monitoring they do found it. I can only say speak as you find and I would say very good.

hi Medway-lady

That’s very good they discovered your kidney failure and have jumped on it.

The problem I’m having is he has no contact number given to him, so other than ringing the hospital and trying to get through to the right person he has no contact. When he went for his initial first appointment they were really good, but that was 2021 March time he has only had a 3 month check after that. He’s on methotrexate which isn’t agreeing with him and now has a rash that the gp doesn’t know what it is. So would like to talk with someone on the team about this.
