At what stage did you give up work?

I am currently working full time, and now offices are open again I am finding I am constantly unwell going into the office. I also am basically living to work. My mobility is dreadful at the moment, and my hands and wrists are excruciating. I am about to start Benepali, so I hope that changes things. But I am feeling so rubbish. We had a holiday last month, and honestly I think it’s set me back. How to I get back to how I was?

So sorry you're struggling. My symptoms came on suddenly and I was quickly hardly able to move. Getting treatment was being dragged out so I had a chat with my employers. I was able to go to 2 days per week split over 4 days and that works for me. I have the option to up my hours again if I feel I can. Perhaps your employer would be willing to let you do something like that rather than all or nothing?

is it possible to reduce your hours till things settle down.?

When I was I’ll at first,I used to want to get back to “ normal “

I now realise that I have to accept a new normal xx

Thank you both. My employer reduced my hours temporarily before. It’s a good idea, I think I’ll ask again. I feel so gutted that I finally have a career I love and I’m going to struggle to progress. Sorry for sounding so glum x

It's hard isn't it. I had to reduce hours right at the time when my boss was promoted and I was taking on his role. I felt so guilty about it but my employers were very understanding and I was able to keep the new position.

Can you ask to see occupational health, they are excellent at supporting you, and recommending adjustments. Otherwise possibly reducing hours till things settle. Don’t lose hope, I use benepali for my ankylosing spondylitis, I also get peripheral symptoms in all my joints. Although they say it can take 3-6 months to see an improvement, my stiffness improved from the first dose. I worked as a trauma nurse, which is very physical, and benepali helped me continue. I had to retire due to ill health after suffering a severe stroke due to an adrenal crisis. I was diagnosed shortly after with adrenal insufficiency, and advised to avoid stress as it could trigger further crisis. However if that hadn’t happened I’m confident I could have continued with support. Hope benepali helps you 🤞

Benepali might change your world. Fingers crossed. Within three weeks of starting benepali I was a different person. I could hold a pen again, didn’t have searing pain in my wrists and hands. Ok ankles and knees still a bit dodgy but can cope with that.

I’m hoping you’ll have the same outcome and then you won’t be worrying about what you can’t do. Let’s hope! ♥️♥️♥️

oh wow I really hope this happens for me. I am so miserable. Really miss the party animal first on the dance floor girl that wouldn’t be seen dead in comfy shoes at the moment

ah. Hate to disappoint. My shoes all had to go 😪😪😪😪. But I do have bone spurs so hopefully you'll be dancing again soon 💃💃💃

I think Maureen Gibson gives good advice about seeing occupational health if your company has one. It's good to have on your record so that they can better understand your condition and they may be able to help making adjustments. I stopped working at 52 because the physical aspects of my job became too much and I decided that to keep pushing myself was making things worse. My husband was still working full time and we had paid off the mortgage so I thought I would risk it and give myself a chance. I was glad I did because I was able to pace myself more and my health improved and I was definitely happier being free of the stress from work. However,we are all different and if you really enjoy your job I would just try and reduce your hours, at least for a while.

sorry to hear…its so miserable….the brain’s willing but the body isnt. I was 50 when I eventually had to throw the towel in as had my neck fused. Previously I was setting the alarm for 5.30am to ‘get going’ for work at 8.30. Talk to your employer like someone else said. Take care

I’m still working, although I’ve had to reduce my days to 4 instead of 5.

I live on my own since I separated from my husband, so I have no other option to pay my bills. But if I had the chance I would give up completely, but I’m 60 and have had enough of work 😊
